Just an old idea I hadnt seen in a while

Description
This proposed trade is after Malkin gets sent to LTIR.

From the Hawks perspective. I'm beating a drum here, but Strome isn't a winger. It's incredibly frustrating to see Stan insist that Strome can play wing. Yes, it's SUPPOSED to be easier to transition from center to wing than going from wing to center, BUT Jesus Marian Hossa...let the kid be who he is! It's only been 1 day of training camp, but if Borgstrom is anything close to as advertised...then we have 6-8 NHL centers right now. Even if we Load Manage Toews...we'll have enough centers

From the PIT perspective. I'm a Hawks fan and Stan is messing up Strome big time. Is Strome going to be a defensive stalwart...no, but he's got great vision, great passer and let's face it...PIT is set up to be a run and gun type offense. The run part can be handled by KK, but Strome will help the gun part for sure. His metrics are actually a lot better than people give him credit for......WHEN HE PLAYS CENTER...STAN!!! CHI isn't getting any of your best prospects and in all sincerity, you can still flip his RFA rights after the season if you want. Heck, you might get a better return that (2) 2nds if you actually play him at center.

I like strome alot, but Hextall said no 1sts and 2nds getting traded unless its a big player. Id work with Strome for Bjorkqvist and a 2nd, not two.

Pens decline because of cap. Hextall also said his 2nd and 1st round picks aren't for trade unless it's a big player. I'd do a Pettersson and Strome swap, but idk if it works for CHI

Hawks aren't really interested in a player coming back. More so picks. Does 6'3" 200+ lbs count as a big player??? awesome face

But why cap? Malkin will be LTIR for "at least" 2 months Per Sexy Hexy

Call me nuts, but Edmonton maybe a better fit.

Something along the lines for Strome for Kassian and a pick...... gives Edmonton a legit 3C and the Hawks get real sandpaper on the third line......🤷‍♂️

Hawks won't touch Kassian even if he can't with a 2nd and no Strome. Hawks really can't take any long term cap dumps.

Not sure I call it a cap dump if the contracts are nearly similar, and long term Strome likely sees more money.

The real idea is to move Strome (and the contract) to address an area of need. Maybe that isn't the 3rd line (I like Hagel and Nylander there frankly), but I don't think moving him just for picks is the right direction either.

That's fair. I can't discourage another opinion. My Opinion is that the Hawks roster is packed right now. It was designed that way for competition purposes, but the enitre point of this post was that the Hawks are NOT utilizing players are their best positions. So, then why even have them?

Can't disagree there. We have seen this so many times. Depth is great, but when it begins to erode the real potential of players, it is a detriment.
