Greenway looks to be rounding into a nice grade B power foward.... not sure moving him is the right move.

Now he maybe a victim of the insane forward depth on the cusp of making it, but he is young and fits new core well.

Greenway is riding his line mates and an inflated shooting %. Teams would be smart to not pay the currently inflated price. Minny would be smart to not break up a good line. A second is optimistic for Zucc even with the salary retention

I don't think a 2nd is too much for a top 6 forward on a 3x4M contract. I think that's a very good contract for a top 6 winger, and a 2nd is very fair value.

Yeah use Dallas as “any team” because we aren’t interested.

That’s assuming he keeps producing as a top six winger in his late thirties without Kaprizov

I mean, sure, but you could say the same about any player in the league. Declining play isn't exclusive to older guys. And even if his play does decline, it's still a 3x4M contract, which isn't going to break anyone's payroll if he's only a 40 point player. It's still a fair contract. He would have to drop off a lot for 3x4M to be a bad contract for him.

Actually it'll be a $4m x 2 deal for Zucc because it's the 22/23 season. If the trade is made after July 1st (when he loses his full NTC) his $3m signing bonus is paid and he'd be less real money than cap hit too. It makes it him less of a risk.

I don't mind the trade as far as value.

Just is Fiala worth Greenway+Zucc+$2m more in dead cap? That is 5 FWDs that will be in the 1st or 2nd NHL season, with only Boldy and Rossi are the ones I'd count on being in the NHL to start in a year.

That’s pretty easy math if you ask me! Fiala is vastly more valuable than that!

I don't think so. Fiala's next contract is going to be ugly. He's on a contract year, should have better linemates (it's hard to have worse) this year, and with a functional PP he'll put up 70p+ this year.

Greenway + Zucc = 100-110 points (say $10m combined for the 22/23 season). Fiala = 75p ($9m for him + Zucc retained money). So you need to find a $1m player to make up that 25-35p difference to even break even in total points production. The prospects (Boldy, Rossi, and maybe another C) that would be on the team in either scenario don't count as that player.

There is so much more to factor in than just points!

You mean like having actual NHL players on a NHL roster?

It's the Marner argument of TOR, but it's Fiala for MN instead. Would TOR be better off having one great player in Marner for $11m, or say $11m to spread around the roster a little better.

If I had to make a choice between Greenway+Fiala or Marner (roughly the same cap hit after this season). I'll take Greenway+Fiala every day of the week. Marner is the best player of the 3 of them.

Bad cap decisions got MN in this mess, making more bad cap decisions just piles on to the mess. It's like Suter's buyout. Years 3and 4 of it cost MN at least $8m to fill a LD spot compared to $7.5m if they had kept him on the team as the bottom paid LD for those years. Not to mention the 4 years $800k (league min player) of dead cap after that.

Agree to disagree about Fiala. You are also not considering the trade compensation the Wild get here.

Yes, Fiala is worth it and signing him long term is my biggest concern about the next off-season.

The compensation for the trade is a moot point to me. Fiala should get that or better if MN trades him this TDL/offseason.
