Don't think the Canucks should be giving up that many 1st round picks. It could be Shane Wright.

Quinn Hughes can't be offer-sheeted, but Jack Hughes can. It doesn't show up in QH's blue tab, but if you go to his Entry-Level Contract provisions, you'll see that it says "10.2(c)" under "Expiry."

Myers is not getting traded, and we are certainly not trading a 2nd round pick to do so!

Jack Hughes is also a total disappointment. Our rookie 2nd round pick Hoglander scored about the same number of points as Hughes last season and will likely surpass him this season. No way we would even want that snow flake on our team, and certainly not for $8.6m!!! Haha this is a joke thread right?

Jack Hughes had a fairly elite season.
Was one of the best two-way centers in league as a 160 lb, 19-year old.
No one here is disappointed.
He is only getting better.

Oh that's funny! "Fairly elite"? is that the same as "almost sterile" or "slightly pregnant"? His second full season, given 61% ozS and played against low quality opposition and he manages to put up 0.55 pt/g and you call that "fairly elite"? He will get better, but elite does not look likely. A soft but decent top 6 player is his likely ceiling. You don't offer sheet a guy like that and make him your highest paid player (when he has not earned it)!

Since the end of 2019-20 season, Jack Hughes had 10 months off, had 2 GMs, 2 captains, and 3 coaches, got Covid and still put a fantastic season.
All as a 19-year old.

He was....
#1 posts hit
#2 in zone entries per 60
#4 in takeaways
#5 in CF relative % among centers
(and on and on)

Yes, elite.

Wow with all those Ozone entries you'd think an elite player would convert it into POINTS! That doesn't say "elite" to me. But anyway if you want to think he's elite, you go right ahead.

My main point was that VAN is not going to offer sheet J Hughes and make him their highest paid player at $8.6m, especially when he wouldn't even rank in the top 5 players on the team (he would rank behind Pettersson, Horvat, Miller, Boeser, Q Hughes).

So it comes down to potential. Does he have potential to be elite? To me elite means he would have to be in the top 5 of centers in the league, otherwise you are not elite in the NHL.

Hughes compared to other recent centers that I would call elite, in their 2nd full NHL season:
McDavid = 1.2 pts/g
Matthews = 1.0 pts/g
Pettersson = 0.97 pts/g
Eichel = 0.93 pts/g
Hughes = 0.55 pts/g

He's not elite now and nor does he look like he is on track to be an elite player, no matter how many fancy stats you want to post. Again, you think whatever you want about him and his potential. But VAN ain't OS'ing J Hughes. Cheers.

First, the points will come. Compare possession stats with other elite centers at similar age. Hughes is far ahead of most of them.

Second, the points will come, better players will be arriving.

Third, the points will come, but they aren't everything. How many of these guys were showing the defensive metrics he had as a teenager?

Fouth, how many teenagers have been through what Hughes has in last year (awful team, 2 GMs, 3 coaches, 2 captains, most vets traded, 10-month layoff, long sickness, lost 15 lbs, etc). I think the resiliancy

Fifth, people forget how young he is. He started in NHL at maybe 150 lbs. That is like an 8th grader. He is only getting bigger, stronger, faster.

Lastly, Hughes played two seasons in NHL before Pettersson even arrived in Vancouver.

Age-18 seasons:
Pettersson was in Swedish junior league
Hughes was in NHL

Age-19 seasons:
Pettersson was in SHL
Hughes was in NHL

Age-20 seasons:
Pettersson was in NHL (Calder year)
Hughes will be in NHL (this coming season)

So lets wait and see what happens in 2021-22...and we can compare those numbers with Pettersson's rookie year, ok?
