I like his potential.

Will need some time to work on his defensive game, but other than that his skillset offensively is pretty good.

Basically the ceiling is a more balanced Tyson Barrie

That said can never go wrong with an ELC

I'm a tad surprised by this ELC...Villeneuve hasn't been that great in juniors, at least to date. Maybe their FO thinks that he's taken a significant step forward in camp, but not a Leafs expert, so I don't really know.

Good luck to him, but he doesn't seem to be NHL material.

He was good at dev camp. Good enough to get a invite to main roster camp

Major thing is his rights expire this year. Along with O'Connell and Rindell

Is this now the guy that gets traded along with a conditional 4th for every player in the league?

He wasn;t very good in the rookie games. Unnoticeable was one of the kinder reports.

"William Villeneuve
While Villeneuve did pick up two assists, his performance was much closer to that of an invite than that of a prospect one year out from having his exclusive rights expire. Villeneuve is a high risk, high reward defenceman, but we didn’t see enough of those game-breaking plays from him that made him the worthwhile swing in the 2020 draft.

Factor in his horrendous 2-on-1 defence against Columbus, it’s no secret there’s a long way to go for Villeneuve. The Leafs will lose his exclusive rights in June and there is plenty of time to earn an ELC in the upcoming QMJHL season, but a lacklustre Draft+1 season was only reinforced with an underwhelming rookie tournament showing."

from: https://theleafsnation.com/2021/09/21/standouts-and-disappointments-from-the-leafs-rookie-tournament/

They signed him instead of losing his rights, but recently he was ranked 25th out of 25 prospects for the Leafs, in what was an admittedly weak system compared to most.
