I’m conflicted on this. I would if the price that got mantha wasn’t so steep. If some would ask me to accept this I would say I think so. Maybe a second and fifth instead of a first

I think the leafs would say no. Nylander has proven himself, Mantha hasn't. WSH is on the downslope, Leafs are in their prime. No point to downgrade when the chance is now.

This is interesting. I think that if they were to give up a first, they should get a little bit more. If this was a trade for Detroit Mantha, it'd be a different story, but he's struggled since he's been in Washington.

Soon as I saw "benefits both teams" and Toronto I knew it was someone trying to undervalue Willy.

I don't think DET Mantha was that much better than what we saw in WSH. Neither version (even with a first) is worth Willie. That being said, Mantha has 40 goal / 80 point potential, but he just hasn't shown it yet. I know injuries have played a part the last couple yeas in DET, but it's not just that.

I could see Toronto maybe rejecting it but it isn’t a easy no they would definitely think about it. It gets them a player that is very good and very physical, scored a bit less than nylander but is more physical and frees up over 1 mil in cap space and on top of that they get a 1st rounder.

He is their best contract and one of the best zone entry guys in the league. He is younger and will get better...much better. A low first doesn't move the needle either.

You would think that Willie is the second coming of Jesus the way Leaf fans rank him. I am not sure that this a a "flat out no" that many think. I mean the leafs tried Jumbo, Simmonds, now Nick Ritchie to get a big bodied forward that can provide some grit or skill - Mantha hits the mark of a big bodied player with skill and then having some additional draft capital on a cap strapped team never hurts.

Is this a deal that gets done, who knows, but its not like the deal is miles apart in value/needs for the teams.
