We are introducing a 35+ contract rule to the GM Game to enforce realistic contracts for older players. This will be in effect from now on but will not affect contracts signed last offseason.

35+ Signing
This rule applies to players whose contracts are signed when they are 35 and older. If a player signed to a 35+ contract retires then that player will be on IR for the remainder of the contract, NOT LTIR. These contracts will be tradeable, think of them like LTIR contracts except they count against the cap.

35+ Retirement
If a player who is 35+ retires on a contract signed in the GM Game before they turned 35 then they will also turn into IR contracts. Depending on the retirement age of the player, a certain percentage of their cap hit will become a penalty. Age will be calculated by the player’s age on September 15th of each season. Here are the percentages:
AGE - PERCENTAGE
42: 100%
41: 100%
40: 95%
39: 90%
38: 75%
37: 55%
36: 35%
35: 30%

These new rules will apply to all players signed this offseason and on including UFA re-signs.

Couple of announcements:

Firstly, based on today's news that the cap will likely rise $1 million IRL, we are tentatively setting the in-game salary cap for 2023-24 at $84.5 million. In the event the IRL number changes, we will set our cap to be $1 million higher than IRL.

Secondly, regarding contract extensions and where to post them, we wanted to clear some things up so that everything is going in the right place.

- If you are re-signing a RFA, please post the extension in the V5.2 RFA Extensions Thread

- If you are re-signing a UFA, please post the extension in the 2023 UFA Re-signing Thread

- If you are signing an ELC or in-season UFA, please post the signing in the 2021/22 V5 Free Agent Signing Thread

- If you are matching an IRL contract that has already been signed, please let your BOG rep know and then post it in the appropriate thread.

- If you intend on matching an IRL contract that hasn't been signed yet, please post the player in the contract matching thread. Once you post a player in this thread, you cannot back out or renegotiate if you do not like the contract they end up getting.

- Lastly, please include all your contract extensions in your team descriptions for ease of access.

The BOG have decided to put Toronto GM Zay back on BOG Watch effective immediately.

All deals made involving Toronto in the last 24 hours will be voted on to determine which stand and which will be reversed.

With the offseason arriving we would like to set some dates in stone for upcoming events... Starting today through June 30th buyouts will be allowed to take place. See the buyout thread for directions on buying players out.

The 2023 Entry Draft will begin on June 19th and will finish on June 26th. See the draft sheet for pick order. Pick deadlines will be posted on that sheet before the start of the draft.

UFA bidding will begin on July 1st making June 30th the deadline for UFA re-signs. The RFA re-sign deadline will be on the second to last day of UFA bidding. All unsigned RFAs will have their own bidding day towards the end of the bidding process.

Just wondering if you guys really thought this through.
Starting in game UFA on the same day as IRL free agency begins, plus it's a Saturday and national holiday for us in Canada.

Surely there could have been a better date that doesn't filter into both Canada Day and July 4th for those in the US

A list of all unsigned RFAs has been created. The list is outdated by a couple of days so there may be signed players on this list marked as unsigned. Use this list to make sure you sign everyone you want before they go to the open UFA market.

As the IRL salary cap has now been set at $83.5 million, we can confirm that the in-game salary cap will be $84.5 million for the 2023-24 season.

CBJ initially took Gavin White with this pick, although as a 2002 birthday he is ineligible for this draft and will instead be part of the UDFA pool. CBJ was allowed to redo the pick based on the remaining options available and has chosen Yegor Sidorov.

As new Armchair-GM now reflect 2026 draft picks, GMs are welcome to start creating and posting their pages for the 23-24 season. Please tag @flamesfan419 in a comment on your page once it is complete.

Your team descriptions must, at minimum, include the following:

- Number of contracts and reserve list players (out of a maximum of 50 and 90, respectively)
- Full reserve lists
- Details of any salary cap adjustments (for any irl salary retentions or buyouts that don't affect the game)
- Any draft pick conditions

Players must have the correct cap hit AND term in the roster/long-term outlook pages. Trading and retaining for a player to get the proper cap hit but the incorrect term will not do, create a player with the name and correct contract details if needed.

Pages must be complete and posted by Saturday, July 15 at 11:59 PM. Failure to have your pages ready, or have complete team descriptions containing the information listed above, may result in your team being fined draft picks.

FREE AGENCY ANNOUNCEMENT
UFA bidding begins tomorrow and thus it's a good idea to read through everything below so you know what's happening.

How It Works
The bidding process is a silent auction. Each day of the free agency period will feature a list of names that can be bid on (see post above for full list). Teams will submit their bids privately to @nickthehabsfan on Twitter. The winning bidder is awarded the player contract specified in the bid; there will be no contract matching; the winning bid can not be refused and the lottery draw will be done between the teams with the top 3 offers.

1 Bonus point will be worth a 5% bonus to your offer only in the lottery. Once everybody submits their offers the top 3 offers will be placed in a lottery for the player. If a team doesn’t get into the top 3 lottery, the bonus points used will be returned, however, if you get into a lottery and lose while using bonus points, they will not returned. Non-playoff teams get 5 bonus points, 1st and 2nd round exits receive 6, and the final 4 all get 7.

The offers that get into the lottery are based on a calculation of the strength of the offer. The AAV value is worth 70% while the term is worth 30%. Playoff and ownership bonuses are also applied before the lottery so if a final 4 team and a non-playoff team offer the same contract and are competing for the 3rd lottery spot, the final 4 team will get in.

What are the Bonuses I can receive?

How do I bid?
Bids will be sent to @nickthehabsfan on Twitter and can be sent early. In your message, you must include the following: Team, Player, Contract, Ownership Bonuses, and Bonus points you are using on a player. Do NOT include playoff bonuses as those are automatically applied.

Due to an input error, the Matt Nieto lottery was done incorrectly. It has been re-run and Tampa Bay has won the redone lotto to win Matt Nieto with a contract of $900,000 x 2 years.

As we are approaching the end of the UFA Bidding Period, this is a final reminder that all RFAs must be signed by Saturday, July 15th, or they will become UFAs and will be added to Day 16 of UFA bidding on Sunday, July 16th.

The linked RFA Sheet has been updated to show which RFAs have been signed, and which are still unsigned. If it says "signed", "intend to match", etc, beside your player's name that means you are good. If not, that means you either still have to post their signing, or send us a contract offer, or match the player's irl deal. (Note: RFAs who were signed early on in the season have already been recorded in the contract database, and thus are not listed on the sheet, ie they are fine).

Only players/contracts that have been posted in either the Contract Matching Thread or RFA Extension Thread have been recorded. It is your responsibility as GM to make sure you have matched/signed everyone that you intend to keep. Simply reaching an agreement with BOG will not do, the contract must be posted, and be in the correct thread.
