He should get a Coleman type return if not better. I'd say the 2nds have gotta be a first. Not a bad idea of a buy tho for WSH. Close in the price gap and this is solid.

Brown should cost a 1st and a recent 1st round pick. Pretty identical value to Coleman

So think 1st + Lapierre

Brown had two more even strength goals than Sprong in ten more games last year, at 4.8 times the cap hit. Sprong is younger and is eligible to sign a cheap extension now. If Brown is worth two second round picks, Sprong must be worth ten of them.

In their own end? Brown is better. Killing a penalty? Brown, all day. Transition game? About even. On a breakaway? Sprong is better.

Years of team control? Cost per point? Cost per goal? Points/60? Offensive ceiling? Sprong.

Checking an opponent's star into the wall? Jensen. Every time. Definitely Jensen for that. And it isn't close.

eta: on the penalty kill and in their own end, Jensen is as good as Brown, also. So the Caps are giving up the best offensive and defensive players in this deal, to get a guy who is almost as good as each. I don't see it. If you swap out Jensen for Kempny, who just missed a whole year with a leg injury, then Sprong and a 2nd seem fine.

You’re too much of a homer to argue with but it’s all good if you like Sprong on the 3RW

Yes. That's a reputation I earned fair and square on this board, through years of claiming that Burakovsky was worth more than a 2nd round pick, Stephenson was worth at least a 3rd, and Vrana could be a point a game player.

eta: of course I've also been wrong about some stuff. I thought Holtby would bounce back. Maybe this year?

I love Sprong on 3RW. I actually want him on the top 6. He plays well with Kuznetsov. This trade is a massive overpayment from the caps side. I wouldn’t trade Sprong 1 for 1 for Brown when including things like cap hit, let alone also trading 2 second round picks and a solid RHD on a good contract.
