Something Occurred to Me

Created by: HatterTParty
Team: 2021-22 Chicago Blackhawks
Initial Creation Date: Sep. 27, 2021
Published: Sep. 27, 2021
Salary Cap Mode: Basic
Description
Why isn’t bowman resigning who he sees as a priority now? I may not be able to stand Dach and am still waiting for him to prove me wrong, but Jesus Christ, resign the kid for 1.5 mil for 2 years, save yourself the off-season headache next year, and move on! Get kuba down while your at it too along with kurashev. Bowman literally needs chaos to show why the team needs him. It’s pure insanity at work.

On current form:

Kubalik: 5.5x6
Kurashev: 2x3
Dach: 1.7x3

Do those now and you can plan for 22-23 and actually act like this team has a future. Taboo, I know.

Because their agents are smart enough not to agree to that

He's probably not resigning them because either the player or the team isn't comfortable signing an extension yet. In both Dach and Kubalik's case, I could see the players wanting to establish their value further before committing to an extension... In Kurashevs case I think the team wants to see more consistency over a full season before signing an extension.

You know the player has to agree to the contract too, right? Why would Dach sign 3 years at a low AAV after coming off of a shortened season where he was also injured. It makes much more sense for him to prove himself this year and increase his value before negotiating a contract next offseason

Basically what everyone else said, RFAs don't sign extensions often, unless they feel their terms are met (DeBrincat got $6.4Mx3), none of these guys are signing until they play this season.

I imagine it’s because extensions are two-way streets and players like Kubalik and Dach have zero incentive to sign extensions now unless they’re getting overpaid. DeBrincat’s deal in 2019 was honestly pretty player friendly with the massive QO he’s due at the end of it and Murphy I feel got a little more than he might’ve on the open market (although I do love having him for another four years).

Think we’re just gonna have to be patient. Dach is clearly a long term piece. Kubalik idk but he’s under control so I think we’ll make something happen. Just the nature of things unfortunately

So fear of an offer sheet plays no role? Genuine question.

Cuz what the hell does he think he’s gonna make next off-season? Either of them? Hawks are screwed next off season. Plenty will write if as moveable money, but in a pandemic who the hell is gonna take those pieces and without paying?

I just don’t see how the hawks move enough to get these guys under contract. I’d rather they sign em up and find a solution over the course of the year.

They have a lot of time between the end of the regular season (or playoffs lol) and the opening of Free Agency to discuss contract extensions for players. Offer sheets have not historically been a problem in the league, and im not sure what changes that next offseason...
