This is a major stretch

Description
Eichel trade to WSH trade explanation:

It's essentially Kuz, Alexeyev, McMichael, and the 1st+Jenson (for cap) and Clark as compensation for Jenson.

Reason for Kuznetsov: Cap move for Washington, can be flipped later by Buffalo

Reason for McMichael: Sabres need quality centers in their system (I guess MacInnis and Hayden just can't cut it) and this is especially true for when they trade Eichel.
-(To put this into perspective the Sabres depth in their system is Ruotsalainen, Malone, Hayden, MacInnis, Pekar, Oglevie, Kozak, Konecny, and Constantini)
McMichael fits the bill of a quality center, ready to make the jump.

Reason for Alexeyev: Future Top 4 D-man; NHL Ready

Reason for Jenson: Purely cap

Reason for Clark: Sabres don't want Jenson, Caps can't keep him. Caps trade a position that they are very solidified at (in RW)

I know it may seem like a lot and that I overvalued Eichel, and that may be true, however, I sincerely believe that upon his return (whenever that may be) Washington would be getting a player that can help them make this final push for a cup, and even pushes for ones post-Ov and Backstrom.

Stolen from one of my previous ACGM teams

Eichel prior to Olympics
Kuz at deadline
Smith at deadline
Eakin anytime

Kuz gives VGK another good center, with versatility to play wing; trade 2 positions they are already strong at

Smith gives Nashville another scoring winger, Hagg could be bottom pair over Boroweicki or a very solid backup for the playoffs

These could be overpayments, so if they are then my bad.
Tell me how to fix it if they are for future reference.

Also I'm feeling like a did a pretty bad Leafs trade. It was to make the cap work, so don't take that too seriously.

NSH won't be paying a 1st to anyone for a couple of seasons. Those 1sts are too valuable to their "competitive" rebuild (whatever that means...) since they're a bubble team or worse this year and next most likely.

Lol VGK isn’t trading all that for Kutz. I’d give a first, elevenes. If you want to retain more prob throw in more picks. Cormier isn’t gonna be included on this, maybe a Connor Cochran. Smith would be VGKs on rental if we do this near deadline.

In case you didn't read the description, some of these trades are interesting to say the least and I can't even say I feel like they are all equal or that they make the most sense. I just tried to do something that wasn't purely focused on Eichel. Sorry, if I had a massive overpayment in favor of the Sabres.

I thought that Nashville had a good chance at the playoffs, but if this is not the case then I will fully agree with you that trading a 1st is nonsensical, after all I follow a team in a never-ending rebuild.

What if I added a clause based on Eichel playing. As in the 1st being removed completely from the trade or becoming a 2nd.

In: Myers, Glass, Rittich
Out: Ellis, Arvidsson, Rinne (just the biggest losses and their "replacements" to give you a sense of the talent that left the team this off-season)

I mean, NSH probably won't be awful -- they should still be a competitive team to play against -- but they won't be great either. They'll be a middling team this year, but they are worse at almost every position this year compared to last. They have gotten younger and cheaper though, so let's see what some of the young guys (Fabbro, Myers, Carrier, Jeannot, Tomasino, Glass, Tolvanen, Pitlick, etc.) can do. They've gotten worse in the short term, but hopefully better in the long term. And if Johansen/Duchene can't muster up 45+ point seasons (shouldn't be much to ask from $8m centermen), then it'll be a very long season for NSH.

As a Caps fan, I would love to see Eichel with us. But now that training camp has started and this situation won't end for a while, I'm scared that trading for Eichel now would essentially be throwing this season away. I'd also want to wait and see how Kuznetsov performs at least for the first month or two of the season to see if it's worth giving up those assets for the upgrade.

The trade was set for just prior to the Olympic break. I wouldn't trade for him now either lol

Gotcha, must've missed that part when I was reading the description. Assuming Eichel has gotten the surgery by then and is in game shape, I'd consider it. We're really going to need McMichael and Alexeyev in the next couple of years, so we better be making sure Eichel is as game breaking now as he was in 2019-20.

Backstrom is also probably out for a month, to start this season, so WSH starts the year at the cap floor with a center depth chart of Eller, Dowd, Pilon, Pinho. That seems risky.

They could sign Galchenyuk and Staal to compete for middle six spots for a year? They could offer-sheet Pettersson if they had their picks, but end up way over cap next year.

I think you sold low on cap space. What do we need byron for?- nothing. We would only be taking him on to free up cap for a team that we should be competing with. And kuznetsov is under contract for 5 years, so that 2 million is actually 10 total, plus i would like to think that cap space will matter at some point. Retention has value, nobody has cap space.

Would you do Smith (for money reasons), Elvenes, 2022 1st, and Corcoran but with no retention?

Caps hang up. Eichel still hasn't gotten surgery on his injury (Thanks Buffalo) and we don't know how good of a player he will be after. Caps also aren't looking to get rid of Jensen and they certainly wouldn't give up a 1st rounder and Kody Clark to do so, even for cap relief, as the Caps can facilitate that for a different player at a much lower cost. Kuzy probably rejects this deal anyway, doubt he is looking to go play in Buffalo, even if it's only for a short period of time.
