The fact is that this is still probably not a playoff team

No way does it make sense to trade Sokolov at this stage

I honestly am not sure I see the Sharks passing on this. '22 1st rounder would be nicer though if you plan to be good this season anyway.

1. Tarasenko is not waiving his NTC for Ottawa.

2. It is now illegal to use extensions as a condition for acquiring draft picks, per NHL rules.

3. I doubt Ottawa is on Hertl's 3 team trade list.

Hard no on all Trades, I would have looked at Tarensanko for L Brown and a pick to take a chance on him.

Would love to see Ottawa get Hertl but I don't see us being on his destination list.
NO CHANCE I would trade Sokolov for Tarasenko. NOPE. Not even 1 for 1. Out of shape and doesn't care; bad combo.

OTT best course is a trade and flip of Taresenko
He'll never go there but if OTT retaining got him on a contender he'd play ball

Retain 50% and grab a bundle from TBL who's lost some depth or WSH who has motivation to put Taresenko-Backstrom-Ovechkin on the PP
But most of all i think NYI would give up Bellows and a pick to take Komorov allowing them to take on Taresenko at 50% RS
NYI is the main team that keeps circling around to STL making it more believable

According to TSN Simmer and a few hockey media peeps on twitter, Tarasenko arrived at camp in phenomenal shape this year, but his fitness AND effort levels have been an ongoing issue in the past.

So in other words, the exact opposite of your initial remark. Gotcha.

You're right, all the best GMs ignore the history of a player known for coming to camp out of shape and playing hard when he choses to. It's the best guy to have in the room to teach the kids.

I was speaking of his reputation. Sorry if I didn't make that clear. It's been talked about quite a bit on twitter this offseason.
