The team wants to be bad this year.
Ristolainen was pushed into the NHL during the middle of 2013-14, the first year of "THE TANK".
He never played on a winning professional team, and the Sabres burned the first year of his ELC.

Let Murray, Quinn, Peterka, Weissbach, Bryson, Samuelsson, Laaksonen, Ukko-Pekka Luukkonen and maybe even Ruotsalainen develop chemistry and maybe make some noise in the Calder Cup.
It would be a huge mistake for the Sabres and more important for the players to rush them.
Four forwards, three defensemen and a GK all entering the NHL together after spending a year in Rochester, that is how one builds a winning team.
They replace Butcher, Hagg, Miller, Hinostroza, Eakin, Okposo, Caggiula and Anderson.
Expose the young players to a winning atmosphere, not this losing merry go round of the last decade.
Maybe the team would not have any all stars, but rather depth with 3 scoring lines, solid defense and GK.
Let me close Granato was a coach when Caggiula, Davidson, Hayden and Hinostroza played with the Hawks (Hinostroza also played with Granato).
I would imagine he plans to use them in some role.

Could be kind of like the Colombus team after they won the Calder cup a while back.

Thank you for commenting.
Exactly, I only hope Kim and Terry keep their fingers out of this.
I knew Tim Murray did not have a clue, the Amerks finished last every year he was GM.
Under Botterill the Amerks were near the top every year, exposing the prospects to winning.
The Amerks missed the playoffs last year, I hope Karmanos can turn it around and bring in the proper mix of vets and youth to Rochester.
More recently the Marlies of 2017-18 with Johnsson, Kapanen, Holl, Dermott, Lindgren, Engvall.
The Amerks were runner up to the cup in 1998-1999 and 1999-2000 season when Kalinin, Afinogenov. Campbell, Biron and Dumont played there and became contributors to the Sabres.
This is not rocket science, it starts in the AHL, let the prospects mature, develop the talent, expose them to a winning atmosphere, and them bring them up to the NHL.
