With EP, they would likely be a playoff team (though in the Metro, it would be far from a sure thing, maybe even doubtful), but dropping the RE from rebuilding, means they are still building. Probably too young a team to give up that many futures ... a team that was closer to the cup, where Pette puts them over the top seems more suitable imo ... also seems a bit uncharacteristic for a management team that has been patient.

Just because there is a cap for one year, doesn't mean a team should do for a UFA and especially a RFA. That's a good way to prevent the Devils from signing Hughes long term
