Description
1. Yes it's only been one game that we've seen them, but I think one of Guhle or Norlinder makes it. They played awesome in the preseason game.
2. Poehling starts in the NHL on the fourth line, centering Perreault and Gallagher.
3. Gallagher is on the fourth (well not really the fourth line since all lines should get equal ice time) line to help Poehling out. The third line is a shutdown line with Lehkonen - Evans - Armia on that line
4. (not really a hot take but) One of Chiarot or Kulak is traded to make space for Guhle/Norlinder
5. Caufield & Poehling get PK time on a makeshift 4th offensive PK line. They won't be together, but maybe they get time with Suzuki and Toffoli, maybe even Dvorak and Armia. The PK offense is Evans - Lehkonen | Dvorak - Armia | Suzuki - Toffoli | Poehling - Caufield
6. Hoffman plays on the "4th line" with Poehling and Gallagher when he returns.
Trades
1.
MTL
ANA
Two players are going to be traded/sent down with the returns of Byron and Hoffman.
At the moment, there is a 23 man roster. 13F, 8D. That needs to become 14F 7D.
When Byron and Hoffman return, it will become 15F 8D. 1F and 1D are gone. But who? Potential candidates below.
    2.
    MTL
Maybe he's sent to Arizona along with two third round picks. It gives them a total of a whopping 11 picks in the first three rounds, giving them lots of chances to get prospects, which they desperately need.
They could also use the picks to trade up to higher picks; they could end up with five first round picks
      ARI
        Paul Byron

He might be the most obvious choice to go. He has a cap hit thats too high, and trading him also creates some space for a deadline acquisition.
        3.
        MTL
If they are traded, the Canadiens could get some low picks for them. Maybe 5th round picks or lower. They could then use those picks to move up into the 4th round, where, somehow, they have very good luck drafting with Trevor Timmins.
          BUF
            Cedric Paquette
            Mathieu Perreault

In my eyes, they're the best options to go. They're bottom six options without much value, but they're French Canadian, which might incentivize MTL to hold on to them for longer.
            4.
            MTL
              Lars Eller

If McMichael plays well in the preseason, it might not make sense for the Caps to keep Eller. So they get a rental defenseman to play in their D-corps:

              Kempny - Carlson
              Orlov - Schultz
              Chiarot - Jensen

              It balances out their defense.
              WSH
                Ben Chiarot

With the rise of Norlinder/Guhle, someone has to be moved. Maybe in this scenario it's Chiarot. Eller can provide a strong 3C for the Habs... but I think this trade should only be done if Evans, Poehling, and DROUIN prove they can't take a 3C spot.
                5.
                MTL
Maybe the Sharks could use him as a 7D. They don't need MTL to retain, they've got plenty of cap space. Plus, Kulak only has a year left, and if a defenseman in the minors proves he can take the 7D spot from him, they can flip him to another team for a low pick. I'd think the Sharks could pay a 2023 5th, and then if they need to flip him, they can ask for another 5th round pick.
                  SJS
                    Brett Kulak

If they decide Chiarot is too valuable to be moved, or it is found out that Weber will be returning for the playoffs, they should move Kulak instead.
                    6.
                    MTL
                      Nick Holden ($850 000 retained)

Here MTL is taking on cap, but only about 150K. They acquire a reliable 7D in case one of the bottom pair D need to be scratched, or get injured.
                      OTT
                        Chris Wideman

Maybe they could send Wideman back to his roots for another D if, for some reason, MTL wants to trade him.

Norlinder to the SHL, Poehling to Laval.

That being said, I'd rather trade Byron and keep Poehling with the Habs.

Yea, I think another year in the SHL for Norlinder will really help his development.

We don't want/need Kulak. LD is by far our deepest position and is already a logjam of NHL ready talent.
