Yeah, that would be a great get. That being said, I'm not sure under what circumstances the Preds would deal him; would they have to be out of contention or is simply being on the bubble enough for them to say, "Screw it, time to get what we can"? This package isn't bad but with the retention and the extra year of JTC, I'm not sure this is enough. Probably have to give them someone like Kaut or Bowers, too. But this is something of an "all-in" move in terms of going for the Cup now and for the next 3-4 years (at that point, the big question is going to be what Mikko wants).

Given the shortage of picks and graduation of the top end talent in Newhook and Byram, Barron is the last true gem in the farm system and I think Sakic would be very loathe to move him AND a 1st rd pick, the retention especially if this deal is at the TDL wouldn’t be as big a factor in the trade as the Avs could accumulate enough cap space by then (I think).

While I agree, I think Sakic puts it all on the table for this playoff run. Tampa Bay hasn't had a first round pick since 2019, and they've done very well. Colorado still has Behrens and Helleson in the pipeline too. If Forsberg comes with an extension, I think it's a good move. Gives them another forward that can carry their own line offensively.

I don’t disagree, but when Tampa has been moving picks it has generally been the up coming year, not multiple drafts away. I like Forsberg but you are also talking about using the equivalent of 2 1st rd picks and bottom 6 forward for a 2nd line guy that might not even be on your PP1, I’m very leery of overpaying for a wing rental is all.

Its always interesting to see what the markets end up being at the TDL. So while supply and demand will change the value wingers are usually one of the lower value pieces and while I could see him getting a 1st rounder as a handful of players do each season (although we are seeing this less and less) idk if there would be anything much more substantial than that simply due to the lack of term. Also the team trading the player away never gets value for any UFA extension signed

Forsberg probably gets more than that AAV, but if he comes with that extension it would be very tempting indeed.

I think that might push Burakovsky out. Are we fine with that?

It would be doable to resign Burakovsky and add Forsberg for one season while Newhook and Byram are on ELC's, but we wold have issues iin 2023.
