Reasonable Eichel trade from Gmonwy

Created by: Skyraider112
Team: 2021-22 Buffalo Sabres
Initial Creation Date: Sep. 29, 2021
Published: Sep. 29, 2021
Salary Cap Mode: Basic
Description
Great idea put forth by Gmonwy. I think this is a reasonable asking price for Eichel so long as Calgary is either assured of his health or they figure out a good plan for surgery with him after the trade
Trades
1.
BUF
  1. Dubé, Dillon
  2. Monahan, Sean
  3. Zary, Connor
  4. 2022 1st round pick (CGY)
Additional Details:
Monahan waives his NTC because he will be flipped right away by Buffalo
2.
BUF
  1. Thomson, Lassi
  2. 2022 2nd round pick (OTT)
  3. 2022 3rd round pick (VAN)
Additional Details:
3rd is for the retention because we all know Dorion is a bit of a penny-pincher
OTT
  1. Monahan, Sean ($3,100,000 retained)
Additional Details:
Monahan agrees to terms for an extension with Ottawa. Why you ask would he do this? To play near his hometown of Brampton and because he believes in their young core

I'm sure Monahan wants an extension but I can't see Ottawa giving up so much and then extending for rather meh centre.

Its fine, except 6.4 million in total retention costs more than a 3rd.

Each year of retention costs an asset just like each year of a cap dump costs an asset.

He's around top 30 in this league, that's "meh"?.

I just can’t see a team that going to fight for a playoff spot give up 2 roster players for Eichel as of right now.

2nd line centre on a non playoff team. But it was a rather silly trade proposal. What is new contract? Sens can find much better value if he wanted even 2m less than his current 6.8m contract.

I would say a return around Brannstrom and 2 2nds is fair, especially with retention

Sabres would want Greig but yeah that value seems right

I mean he's been a 1st line center on a playoff team 50% of his career with a 0.7ppg, Matthews has played 2 more playoff game than him and has only 3 more post season points.

Calling him a 2nd line center on a non-playoff team is recency biased, considering he was injured since game 6 of the regular season you could say the exact same thing about someone like Elias Pettersson.

I feel like getting either is pretty good, Brannstom at 2RD would really round out your top 4 moving forward

The CGY part is good, the latter trade isn’t.

Monahan with that much retention would fetch the value of a 1st/solid prospect + moderate pieces

The offer of Brannstrom + 2 2nds makes since value wise.
