A 1-2 punch on LHD of OEL and Hughes is going to be absolutely fantastic for the Canucks the next six years if they want to be scored on 5 times a game

If he could actually defend this would be a home run

I mean, is he awesome at defense? No, not really.

Could this contract have been Seth Jones if Hughes had a better agent? Maybe

Is this a win for the Nucks? Well, considering the above line, I would say probably.

With the defensive market a lot of Canucks fans were legitimately trembling at what this could have been. Regardless of what type of RFA this is, we all knew he wasn't also going to take some ludicrously cheap deal. This is a good balance of current and long term team needs, keeps in mind his ceiling while also keeps in mind his struggles this year.

Benning disappointed us last offseason, but I am thoroughly pleased with this one... if all pans out, this could be the 2nd best offseason we've ever had.

Let us pray that this will put an end to all the incessant Quinn Hughes to New Jersey Armchair-GMs. Had enough of those for a lifetime.

If Quinn Hughes plays well for the next five years and then we trade him to the Devils for some serious value, then I will be happy with that.

Good deal, sure Hughes isn't the best defensively but looks who's around him ( Tyler Myers, OEL, etc ) and you'll understand why. He's the Nucks 1 D and this will be a great contract by the end

I hat Quinn Hughes but I think he's going to easily become Vancouver's best defenseman, supported by a pretty awful core of defensive partners. Like everyone else is saying he needs to work on his play in his own zone, but if he gets that down this contract is great.

I honestly think it's a bit high, but given how long it's dragged on I think it's reasonable enough to call it a good contract. I'd prefer to call it an okay one but not an option.

I think Heiskanen has been a better defenseman thus far for example and signed for 8*8 iirc. So for 6 years that would be the equivalent of about 7 mil for 6 years. So I think Hughes should be more like 6.5-6.7.

But in the end he's a young and super talented first pairng defenseman and it's good enough

Only bad part is it only buys 1 UFA year. Idk off the top of my head but Makar and Heiskanen deals get more UFA years right?

Makar's deal and Kaprizov's deal each bought out 2 UFA years (Though Makar's contract is the same length as Quinn's, Makar's one year older than Hughes, and Kaprizov, who signed for 5 years, is 2 years older). Heiskanen's and Svechnikov's extensions bought out 4 UFA years.

Is it a bad deal no

Is it a good deal also no

Its right in the middle between good and bad. Money is good but term could have been better.

You know, I’m almost a little happy Detroit passed on Hughes and got Zadina instead. A full-on offensive defenseman with limited to no defense that gets paid like Hedman feels like a great player to watch, but a headache overall. I hope he fixes his defense (it’s in the position, defenseman), and if he does this deal should look great for Vancouver down the line. For now, though, I would hate to be Demko on a team whose best defensemen are Hughes, Ekman-Larsson, and Myers.
