No for the following reasons. 1) regardless of what CF ACGM’s say he is an NHL player with value, he is versatile being able to slide around the line up and in and out of special teams 2) Bednar seems to love him 3) Even given how awful he was last year he was tracking for a 30pt season (in an 82 game season) 3pts less than Nichushkin, something Jost has never done, something nobody in the current bottom 6 has done besides Nichushkin and Helm (4 years ago). 4) the Avs aren’t going to eat 2.5M. 4) he is significantly better than than LOC, Maltsev, Helm, MacDermid, etc….

Compher had a bad year and is a touch over paid for what he does but get real burying him in the minors to play guys with less than 50 games of pro experience that aren’t as good as him is never happening.

I agree, the hate that compher gets is unwarranted. Especially at camp when Maltsev hasn't shown anything to warrant him being in the AHL, as a waiver exempt guy. Asset management, why waive compher when you can simply waive guys who are exempt and haven't earned a roster spot

I really, really, really wanted the team to move Compher and use the money to keep Saad. Sadly it didn't happen, and I believe they are a worse team as a result. The org seems to like Compher much more than I do for some reason though, so hopefully I'm the one who is wrong.

That said, I wouldn't bury him. He's a decent, albeit overpaid (he should be making half of what he makes), bottom six player. Trading him is one thing, but burying him is another. If he is beat out by other players, he can be the 13th forward. The minors won't happen though.

I have fallen out of like with compher and now want to see what these kids can do that finally look like they are ready to compete for an nhl job..

Compher is a decent pk guy and can skate it into the zone on the 2nd pp, with a little chippyness to his game. The question is where do you put him now? With the top 6 locked in for at least the first few weeks, then newhook and jost first in line to replace nuke if he doesn't work out..

Compher seems to be a 3.5mil per year passenger as bednar calls them, and with ranta and bowers Taking the next step, maltsev being good in the face off circle, O'Connor having some of the leagues best forecheck analytics, macdermid being a defensive liability that Joe wants in the lineup.

That leaves compher and helm on the outs in my opinion, unless he can find some of that missing chemistry he had with jost and Wilson in the playoffs years ago

It would be hard to trade a guy who you've stated is overpaid by double.. a waiver claim would be nice but unlikely with the leagues cap difficulty

Maltsev's ability on the pk, faceoff dot, and salary warrants him a 4th line roll in my opinion

Being critical of compher due to his last season is warranted but we have to stop pretending he’s now a bad hockey player and has no value.

If Duncan Keith with his bad cap hit, awful on ice results can be traded for good assets, you can get something of value for compher if they wanted. 90% of his career doesn’t go away bc he under performed last season

Compher might not necessarily be a bad hockey player, but I don't think he's the right one, I'm tired of them playing guys like compher and Megan, and Tynan, instead of these kids that look like they're finally ready.. bowers, ranta, newhook.

Unfortunately for compher I feel like he just makes 1.5 mill to much

I think they could have moved him if they really tried. The return wouldn't have been good, but I believe even something like JT and a fifth for a fourth would have been worth it to get his contract off the books.

This team would have been better with Saad or maybe even Tatar in lieu of Compher. I agree with your statement that he's not the right player for this team any longer. Jost has become a better version of him, and LOC might have surpassed him as well. Neither have the scoring ability that Compher does, but they are more of a positive overall (imo).

I can agree with that, compher might not be the right fit anymore, but he doesnt deserves to be buried in the minors as a result to it. Compher as a 3C does not work, he isnt good enough C to play that role on this team, he is much better at a Winger, and when he moved over to wing last year mid season he looked leaps and bounds better.

Trading Compher down the the line should be explored bc I think his role has been taken over now with guys like Jost, Nuke, etc. But he still is the better NHLer out of anyone in that bottom 6.

life would be so much simpler of Seattle just picked Compher and left us Donskoi instead. It was rumoured all week that compher was the pick an then they just take Donskoi....and in the process since then have signed a million versions of compher in Marcus Johansson,Ryan Donato, Riley Sheahan. Seattles approach to their roster is still so puzzling

if they wanted a compher version, why didnt they just pick him and go out in UFA and sign a better winger.

Yeah I was really hoping that rumor would come to fruition. And agree about Seattle's approach being strange at best.

I don't hate Compher. I think he's a decent player. I do hate his contract though and find his skillset to be redundant. If he can be a bit of a pest and score some goals then he could work on the third line. If not, I guess we'll see what happens at the tdl.
