I'd do that but can't see McD waive to Edmonton

Also this trade will likely lead to us not signing Yamo next year

And JP. Almost all of Koskinen's money that is coming off the books will be going to Nurse. Not to mention Perlini and Marody (although they may only get modest raises) as well as signing another goaltender.

I think we sacrifice goaltending for Puli. He is filling a huge need in our top 6

Having a league minimum goaltender (because that's essentially the cap space they'd have left) to back up a 40 year old goaltender is a recipe for disaster.

Wow!! Trading Broberg for 30+ years old McDonagh is lunacy. He’d be a cap Dump with some upside for the next two years. Their D should be fine honestly. It’ll evolve and progress throughout the season with Keith’s influence taking hold.

Russell is worth (at least) a 6th, so Kassian, Broberg + a 1st for McDonagh? Ew.

I’d take the Oilers D over several other teams.
Buffalo
AZ — well outside of Chychrun … u know
SJ — they’ve gotten old and slow
Vancouver — Hamonic is gone. Not sold on OEL yet. Hughes is great but has a long way to go defensively. Myers … anyway.
Ottawa — in a few years when JBD and Sanderson are further developed … maybe.
Toronto — I’m never sold on their D. Maybe.
Ducks
Likely a few other teams.
There’s no doubt that the Oilers D has a long ways to go but definitely not the worst.
Time will tell.
Flames maybe— the lost Gio so we will see.

Toronto has a very good defense lol.

And you can’t tell me a team that’s going to be playing ceci,Kieth,Barrie and russel isn’t the worst defense in the league

So? He still has some value. Your trade stinks. TWO 1st round picks for a cap dump! tears of joy

Russell is a 7th D. Ceci had a good year last year. Duncan Keith might get a revival in Edmonton. I’m also anticipating a huge step from Bouchard. It’ll take at least 20 games before we see it all come together.

As for the Leafs D …. As a Bruins fan I’ve seen them collapse often so ya I’m not willing - at this point - to rate them very high. Both teams have similar dynamic. High end top six F and leaky D and a strung out G tandem so there’s that.

Toronto has 3 top 25 dmen and the rest are very solid. Kieth is 38 there is no revival, ceci at his best is a decent defensive dman who is the definition of a black hole offensively, Russel will end up playing because EDM has nobody else and Bouchard is as inconsistent as they come

Bouchard is what? 21? I’m quite the Leafs D will implode. It always does. Well let’s wait and see.

In the North Division. Yes they did … then collapsed. We shall see what happens this year. In 2020, where were they? I can tell ya they were bottom five in GA and PK. Top 5 in GF and PP. similar to the Oilers except the Oilers had a better PK. We shall see what happens.

Not completely different:
Reilly
Muzzin
Holl
Sandin
Dermot
Mind you they also had Ceci and Barrie. But does subtracting those two and counting on improvement from Sandin and Dermot raise them from the bottom five in those areas?? I’d say no but we will see. They will back in their old division playing those teams 4-5 teams each. That’s 16-20 games vs TB, Boston, Florida and Montreal - who might be good this year.
Like I said a few times, we will see but I’m not convinced just yet.

Lmao Montreal won’t be good this year and yes taking out Barrie and ceci is such a huge W, and how are you gonna say oh this leafs D was so bad referring to the one with Barrie and ceci yet defend the oilers D with those same 2? Toronto’s core while having those 2 is worlds better than Edmonton’s active D

You are correct. … Huge ?’s. The thing is Barrie has Nurse to play with and that’s pretty solid. Ceci played well in Pittsburgh but not in Toronto and he was not horrible in TO. +7 with very few points though. Not sure why that was honestly. That’s the biggest ? For Edmonton.
We will see this year if Brodie is a better replacement than Barrie in a normal season. Barrie had great underlying stats it was a -7. Brodie has great stats from his Flames days but he primarily played with Giordano. 2 years he did not he was -16 both years. But his underlying stats were decent so we will see if he is an upgrade over Barrie this “normal” season.
