raymond but NOT on the 1st line

Description

For some reason everyone is going crazy and putting Raymond as a lock for the 1st line. I like the guy, I've been a fan of him for a while, but he's 19 years old and it is only the preseason. Personally, I'd give him some time to get used to the NHL and the larger rinks, and maybe do something radical and let the kid develop a bit before tossing him onto the 1st line. Kinda like how everyone does with literally everyone that isn't Connor McDavid. I'm not saying he won't be good, he will be. I'd put my money on him being a future 100 point guy, but just give him some time.

I think the reason a lot of people see Raymond on the 1st line is because of his chemistry with Larkin. Raymond has a high hockey IQ and talent to complement.

I've said the same things before camps & preseason that Raymond might need time to adjust to the smaller ice surface but he has adjusted well so far.

To me Ray looks elite on the first line offensively so far but I wonder if he can be elite defensively/overall on the 1st line against TOP teams/players in the league.

It's a tough decision. On one hand the Wings would be more fun to watch with him on the team; on the other hand it MIGHT be better for him to spend some time in Grand Rapids.
