I think the sharks trade is close (chytil is really good and sjs is unlikely to get a better centerpiece back in a trade than him) but new york would send another piece, like Kravstov.

That trade is definitely not gonna get it done for Hertl AND Meier. For both of those guys the Sharks are gonna want Lundkqvist or Kravstov in the package. Side note: Why are the leafs getting a better package for Reilly than the Sharks are for their 2 best players?

Rangers would be way over the cap when including bonuses so it decreases the cap next season. Rangers aren't serious contenders this year, just hold onto your cheap young assets.

Hertl is worth more on his own let alone add in Meier. NOT EVEN CLOSE

If you want to adopt a "win now" strategy, which I will accept as the premise of this post, I can see the merit of acquiring Hertl (and playing him at #2C instead of Strome, or at #2RW with Panarin and Strome) and Rielly (even at that cost), but why do you think you need another RW to go with Kakko, Kravtsov and Goodrow?

Can play him on either side. Depth isn't really a bad thing.

Hertl isn’t worth close to that package, but you’re right that the rangers should be offering more for both of them. That package would be a monstrous overpay for hertl.
