Created by: Devil
Team: 2021-22 New Jersey Devils
Initial Creation Date: Oct. 6, 2021

Salary Cap Mode: Basic
Description
As much as I want Holtz to be on Hughes wing, Holtz isn't ready for those big minutes yet
Can't break up the European line. They have unreal chemistry
The young 3rd line. Mercer and Holtz looked great together. Adding Kuokkanen (who can play with anyone) on that line.
4th line from last year except Johnsson in instead of Bastian

New huge top pair. Offensive Hamilton and Defensive Graves
Smith and Severson, best pairing from last year
Offensive Subban and Defensive Bahl

Good goaltending tandem

What's going on with N. Foote? The ACGM hype around him has seemed to have died since camps opened. Is he showing he still needs some AHL conditioning?

He looked good to end last year but has had a disappointing training camp
Maybe another year in the AHL to improve his skating would help

You know the Devils took over the Utica AHL team affiliation after Vancouver bailed for BC. Utica are the main rivals of the Lightning AHL affiliate in Syracuse. So, I will be sad seeing him play against us many times this season.

He has good skills, has right instincts, but sometimes its like watching a good NHL player, but just in sloooow mooootion.
Looks like 3rd liner, 2PP type. Needs to bring a little giddy-up.

(also to be fair, I think all eyes in Devils camp have been focused on Mercer since he has played so well)

I like the lines, overall I think all of them including special teams are pretty solid. The one question mark I have after watching some of the pre-season games is Tatar, he hasn’t looked good, will he fit will in the top line because if he doesn’t they may want to give holtz a shot. But I think these are probably the best lines to start the season with, I think Severson and Subban could be switched depending on who plays better the first batch of games

Can't skate. No edge control ... lacks balance, speed & power necessary to be an effective NHL caliber player. I guess he could be a change of pace fourth liner, but that's about it until he gets mobility

I didn't realize they were rivals, that's pretty cool
Foote looked very strong in the AHL next year so he might be getting his "revenge" on his new rival

Looks good to me. Im willing to give Bahl a shot but I'd have a tight leash. Don't love Siegenthaler but I'm less worried about messing up his development than Bahl's. The top 4 is pretty much set so 3LD will be playing opposite Subban who is....not exactly the most sound partner which could be rough for a young inexperienced player like Bahl.

Bahl over Siegenthaler?

Bahl over Siegenthaler weirded me out a little as well. To me I see a big difference in maturity between the two, Bahl is so raw and often such a questionable decision maker. He does have his size which helps him out in puck battles but it doesn't make him ready to be an NHL regular yet, think at least one more year in the minors would do wonders for him.
I think Siegenthaler is more reliable as a low event third-pairing guy, got some common sense to him on the ice but likely won't develop that much further, makes more sense to play him over Bahl in the short-term.

btw, lines are overall excellent

Tbh I haven't liked Siegenthaler's preseason which I gave the edge to Bahl
It will likely end up being Siegenthaler on that bottom pair though
