Initial Creation Date: Oct. 6, 2021
Published: Oct. 6, 2021
Salary Cap Mode: Basic
Description
Duncan Keith retires

This checks the biggest box for the oilers, goaltending, It also improves the defense and sets up decent offense with cap room for improvement if the young guys don't look good. I am a caps fan and I did the vanecek trade because the caps will be tight up against the cap and will not have enough cap to sign him, samsonov, sprong, and everyone else they need to sign. I think samsonov is the caps goalie of the future. Edmonton could take advantage of this situation and finally lock up a pretty good, young goalie long term.

I mean the value is whatever, but Kulikov was the only guy Guerin signed for more than one year, and I don't see the reason for them to do this. Kulikov is actually solid.

He could also be the 2nd pair d-man in MN if Goligoski runs for the hills after this season.

Most of this can just be omitted. NYR trade seems pointless Holland isn't going to trade his first Oilers draft pick. Ryan > Rooney, Smith > Hutchinson, Kulikov trade is pointless when Oilers have LD prospects that can fill 3rd pairing role.

Our main pointless was the goalie trade should just stick with that.

I could see keeping Smith for the last year of his contract instead of signing Hutchinson but I think the vanecek deal is really good for the Oilers, it locks up a talented young goalie long term. That is something the Oilers have needed for years

I love the kulikov trade, but oilers aren't trading Broberg unless its for something elite

I feel like the oilers could use another top 4 pick-moving, point-producing D-man. I don’t know a huge amount about Broberg but isn’t he more of a defensive defenseman. Do you think the rangers should also send a pick the the oilers in that deal

The Oilers need more 2-way defensemen, not more puck movers. Haven't you seen the Oilers roster recently? This trade is hot garbage.

He's a two way guy, also we don't need more puck movers as we have Nurse Barrie, Bouch, Keith, pretty much our whole d core is pretty much puck movers lol. Unless its 2 firsts and Schneider its a no from oilers

I see your point and could agree that oilers need more value in return for that trade to work. I am not a rangers fan, I hate them, but 2 firsts and Schneider for Broberg is way to much. Not a single gm, except maybe Peter chiarelli. Also Duncan Keith, was a great puck moving defenseman bit anymore. He is more of a decent 2-way D now.

Thats why I said the price was that, unless it's an easy fleece, Broberg is untouchable
