well I’m very glad you’re not running the flames lmao

        - Sens aren’t trading Batherson
        - Martinez would have cost more in Calgary than Vegas, if he’d even come to Canada
        - Trading Valimaki at all is dumb, Treliving wouldn’t even trade him for Stone and while I would have, I can understand why he didn’t want to, his upside is still a very good 2-way top pair D
        - Building off the last point, that return for Valimaki is horrific
        - That’s like 2-3 times more than Florida paid for Reinhart
        - Duehr isn’t NHL ready, let alone 3rd line ready
        - Pelletier could use a year in the AHL as well

I don't know why Calgary would trade Valimaki, but even if they did, he is not a fit in Detroit. Our D pipeline is already super crowded and we don't need to add any more to it.

Monahan would fill a need for Ottawa but trading Batherson would just create an even bigger hole and the 2nd doesn’t quite make up for that. That’s a pass for Ottawa.

Just a side note. Batherson had Tkachuk had identical offensive stats last season. Batherson signs for 4.9m X 6. Now not denying Brady is a better player, but how much better?

Tkachuk is definitely a lot better than Batherson. Maybe not 4m/year better but definitely better.

I think the better comparison is the guy that was taken two spots ahead of him in 2018 (in the spot Ottawa would’ve picked it they didn’t lose the lottery). Svechnikov might not have as many intangibles as Brady but his point totals are higher and probably always will be. If the scale tips to Svech in terms of skill and he signed for 8x7.75m, do Brady’s intangibles make up for the skill discrepancy to the point where he can ask for the rumoured 8x8.4m?

I love Brady but I think I’d rather have Svech at 650k less/year.

        Not moving Batherson

Unless it's in a package for a premium player
