To me, it's a slight overpay.

If you take Guentzel away from Crosby and put him with someone like Trocheck or Staal, he won't be the same player.

Crosby is the reason why Kunitz and Dupuis were so good in their prime.



I also don't think the Canes should be throwing around 1st round picks as much after the Kotkaniemi offer-sheet.

I hate how every fan thats not a pens fan thinks Guentzel is only good because he is playing with Crosby. But yet they also think Crosby isnt a top 10 player anymore. Doesn't make any sense. Pens aren't trading Guentzel unless its a big overpay. At least Necas + to get Guentzel to the canes. Guentzel only scoring goals because crosby passes to him is like saying ovechkin only scores goals because backstrom is passing to him. Guentzel is Elite offensively and can shoot the puck in the right spot every time. So no, just because Crosby is a franchise player (and somehow not a top 10 player to the fans even if hes "carrying" the player) doesn't mean he gets credit for everything Guentzel does. lol Ovechkin scored 50 goals before backstrom was even in the NHL. He also scored 50 with Kuzy as his center... sound logic using the great goal scorer ever as a comparable to JG leaching off Sid and Geno.

While guentzel is a decent player, he really is nothing without crosby or Malkin, and that will be pretty evident the start of this season. The only reason JG got 40 goals was because he was playing with Sid and Geno. The package that was proposed by the OP is way too much for a player without the star power he was playing with, would be a bottom 6 player. That package I might do for Forsberg or Gaudreau, but not JG.

You did incorrectly suggest that JG is worse without Crosby yet over a 30 game sample size (nearly half a season) his PPG went UP.

2. Point production is just one of many things that make up the quality of a hockey player.

If you place a player like Guentzel on a different team with a different team environment, it's possible that Guentzel won't live up to the standard of play that he shows when he's playing with Crosby.
