Depending on Kampf and Spezza at centre doesn't seem practical.

Kampf seems like a pretty capable 3rd centre and if that's the case, we don't really need kerfoot at 3.5 million cap hit, especially if he's playing wing.

For that much retention you're lucky we're not asking Amirov AND Niemela.

Really? Kampf had one goal last year so hardly 3C material. Spezza has played little centre in recent years. If an injury happens to Tavares or Matthews, the Leafs are screwed at centre. Kerfoot at centre and Nylander were the by far the best two Leaf players in the playoffs last season.

I think Kampf is fine at C, Brooks likely takes at 4C spot if Kerfoot is moved. If I remember correctly, he centered Jumbo and Spezza late last season.

In terms of value in the trade, I'm not entirely sure. Don't know if it needs to include Steeves and Abramov, but I'm sure there will be varying opinions on that.

My concern is what Meier's QO will look like after his contract is done with his salary being $10M in the last year of his current deal. TOR does have a few contracts coming off the books at the same time but if he makes more that Nylander with his next contract TOR will still be extremely cap tight yet again.

What's so special about Meirer? Yes he had more assists, but geez he had 10 goals, with loads of PP time. Heck Engvall had 7 goals, and Kerfoot 8 goals. Is Meirer really a difference maker?
That's for confirming that the Leafs little NHL centre depth if Kerfoot traded.

A 3C doesn't need to have high offensive production. He plays a shutdown style of hockey. That doesn't mean he isn't a 3C, it just means he isn't an offensive player. On top of that, 1 goal is an inaccurate representation of how he played last year and a bad tool to evaluate him as a player in general. With the injury thing, it's unlikely a team wouldn't have a massive dropoff between their 2nd and 3rd line centre, especially when that 2nd centre is making 11 million dollars. Leafs are also in need of a top 6 left winger, and this trade pretty much gives you an elite player with a cap hit way less than his worth...Kerfoot's value to the team shouldn't even be considered in this specific deal.

Sorry 3C, aren't just shut down centre. Now I think Kampf is going to worked a lot of PK time, but not a log a necessarily at even strength.
Meirer has had declining stats for a few years. He hasn't been elite. Please, OK if you don't like Kerfoot fine, but why is a top winger with 10 goals elite , and Kerfoot has no value with his 8 goals?
Sorry you don't understand that any injury to Matthews or Tavares would have on the Leafs if you expect Kampf could fill the big minutes as a 2C

Trade him for a winger/center in the 2 million range. If the leafs have to give up a late draft pick to get the deal done so be it. Kampf is going to be the 3rd line center and Brooks the 4th center. Problem is if any center goes down the leafs are very thin after that, this is why they probably keep Kerfoot unless they make a deal like l suggested.
