I don't see any evidence or even a hint of an indication that Greenway-Hartman-Foligno won't be a line, and certainly that Fiala would be with Hartman and Foligno. Those former three have been together for the duration of camp/pre-season (barring games where they're not all playing). Fiala is going to be with some combination of Boldy/Beckman/Gaudreau/Pitlick/Rask.

Truth, but I really think that Fiala should be on a second line.

I don't think "second line" and "third line" matter here. If you want, you can just list Fiala's line as the second line regardless of who's on it. Each line has their role. And even last season when Fiala was on the "third line", he was third in TOI/g, 9 seconds behind Ek, so it's not like he's not getting minutes.

This he deserves a better chance. But i separated what I want with what is going to happen and created a separate thread for that.

Beckman deserves a shot before Boldy IMO.

Imo Boldy is more NHL ready as for now. I listed some callups in the taxi squad though

This is probably close. I think the pressbox FWD will be one of Rask, Bjugstad, Gaudreau, or Pitlick.

At this point I'm not sure any of the prospects FWDs make the team. They all have flaws that are apparent.

Boldy is probably the closest, but it's more a mental thing than needed to work on skills thing. I'd give him a few NHL games and reevaluate sending him down after that. I do think he needs some NHL games to know what he needs to work on if he gets sent down as part of his development.

For the 6D I want to take the option for none of the above. It's just been a battle of different levels of bad-ugly for all involved.

Addison has been good enough, but it might be a situation where you want him playing the top minutes in Iowa and developing with the rest of the prospects. Pus he's waiver exempt and the rest aren't.

He's been lost in the d-zone against AHL competition. I don't want to see what happens against NHL top-6 FWDs.

I m just wondering why folks who were ok last season are now lost. Maybe conditioning issue idk

Thats why the bottom pair doesn't usually play against NHL top 6 forwards. I'm not saying he's gonna come in and take Brodin's spot, but he has been the 6th best defenseman at worst this pre-season.

I've also seen him completely walk guys in the neutral and offensive zones. If he was elite everywhere at 20/21 years old he'd be Cale Makar or Miro Heiskanen and we'd be wondering who we have to move to fit his 8.5M extension.

He had a 3 games callup and an elite babysitter in Suter as his partner in the regular season. Then played a very limited role on the 3rd pair in the Playoffs after Soucy was injured. Nothing was expected of him, so any flaws were easily overlooked.

Now he was expected to be the 3RD going into camp and he hasn't looked like he belongs in a NHL lineup.

He'll still have a couple of shifts a game against the other teams' top-6. An icing or the other team getting a good line change at the correct time.

He's been walked more than he's walked anyone, and these are AHLers he's been playing. Put him on wing if you want the neutral zone and o-zone play. He's a d-man and need to be able to play defense.

None of this debates the fact that he's been at least the 6th best defenseman in the organization

That's the organization's failure then. These failures are piling up quickly under this GM.

Lots of things to be critical of, I don't think 21 year old Calen Addison being your 6th best defenseman is one of them. He's 21, he's going to get better, and of course he's not going to be above average defensively at this point.

Addison shouldn't be in the NHL. He didn't stand out in the prospects games, and he hasn't been good in the preseason games. Addison was gifted a NHL spot this offseason, and has done everything to lose it.

These are the waivers eligible d-man signed this offseason: Benn, Hicketts, Merrill, Mermis, and Czuczman. That's half an AHL d-corps and 2 NHL d-men for the 6/7 spots. Yet somehow Menell gets thrown away.

Yeah you and I are watching different players, apparently. Or you're expecting way more of Addison than you should be. He has been plenty good for what he is. If he's not on the roster this season, he will be next season. Though, he was given 6 games last year (3 in the playoffs), so the odds of him playing more this season are pretty good.

Menell couldn't stick in a bad Leafs D group, I'm not losing much sleep over him. He's Addison right now, but a few years older.

The Leafs have more defensive depth than MN does. I like their d-corps better overall than MN's this year. MN took a big step backwards as far as their defense this year.
