Robertson is in the AHL I thought. Also, no this isn’t the team to beat. This team is not better than last years in my opinion. I would still take Tampa’s any day over Toronto’s team. There are tons of teams that are better.

I guess I’m just confused as to why you think that. This is the team that just can’t get out of the first round, they’ve probably gotten worse, and now they’re the team to beat?
Hyman to ritchie is a ridiculous downgrade. This roster could have zero NHL left wingers. Bunting has about two weeks of success. Ritchie is god awful. Robertson hasn’t exactly lit the world on fire, and Simmonds is…to be polite, on the back nine. Campbell looked good last year, but he’s never played more than 31 games.

The team to beat? Unless Sandin randomly turns into a Norris candidate, and Campbell turns into a Vezina candidate, looks more like a bubble playoff team.

So going with 20 man lineup and having cap space is the answer? Keep Dermot and Engvall, sent Robertson to Marlies for now, trade Mikheyev and you have a cap compliant 22 man roster.

The more i look at this particular roster, the more scenarios i see where they don’t even make the playoffs. Left wing is really shaky, and goaltending has some question marks.

Top-6 down the middle & on the RW side looks extremely solid, but the entire LW side of this team, aside from Wayne Simmonds (who is nearing the end of his career), is nearly entirely unproven at the NHL level when it comes to being a top-6 LW. Until guys like Bunting and Robertson fortify their standing as a capable NHL "Top-6 LW", I have a hard time calling this team the "team to beat."

Leafs aren't trading soupy, his probably their 2nd or 3rd best forward on the pk. Just tell him to shoot low and have Bunting play with him because he seems to be a finisher. I'd have Bunting- Kampf-soupy as the 3rd line. They could cause some havoc on the forecheck.

Robertson was sent down yesterday. I think Kerfoot will play on the 2nd or 3rd line LW. Kampf is here to be the #3 center.

I agree. Kerfoot is a really good winger and passable center. That matters. There is a reason why the leafs want guys like that. Having top 6 guys you shuffle and mid 6 guys who can do various roles means you only need guys who can sub in bottom 6 wing and 4th line C is all you need for depth in your forward group. They really need to move Dermott. That money is far better spent in someone else for defensive depth. He is what he is, and what he is isn't good enough.

Some of these comments are ridonculous. Yes, Leafs have had trouble getting out of first round (well documented), but Hyman was 5th best forward and 9th or 10th best player. They were one of the best teams in league last year, and will be there again this year. Tampa lost their whole 3rd line and a top 4D; they’re still good but come on…Leafs are legit. Just need to breakthrough in playoffs 🤞

I agree with you about Mikheyev..... Just hope they can keep him within in their cap.
