Leafs would pass. If they are going to pay a 2nd for a rental on a defenseman, they could do much better than Colin Miller. He hasn't been good and doesn't really bring much to the table, he's just a warm body. Pick up a, say, Troy Stetcher instead.

I don't quite understand a Sabres fan selling so so low on Eichel is the franchise casting a pall of despondency across the land like a fairy tale or... ☹

Dallas aren't exactly well set up to take on a 10M per year contract wouldn't the Sabres at least take back Khudobin- while sending a cheap goalie there

I would say hes worth a 3rd but the sabres are retaining half and taking back another 40% so thats why the 2nd

You don't get value for holding on to cap on a non-competing team after the trade deadline. Its a cost of making the trade work. It also doesn't change the fact that as even you seem to have agreed to, Miller isn't worth a 2nd. The Leafs should shop elsewhere, they can do better. Stetcher would be my target.

Dallas has 24 mill in cap space next year and another 5 with Bishop on IR. If Eichel returns this year it would be during the playoffs so it wouldnt count against the cap

You 100% get value for making cap space work for another team. The cost of making the trade work is levied to the buyer. Whether you want to spend that or spend it on Stecher is a different answer entirely, so i understand that point.

You are trading a 3rd pairing defenseman and frankly not a very good one. The onus is definitely on you to make the cap work in this case given that you are paying that depth player so much. The team you are trying to trade him to can go to 10 other teams all with defensemen like him who are probably paying them less. You are misunderstanding the leverage in this situation. They have options, the Sabres won't have many if any at all for a 4 mil AAV 3rd pairing guy.

Dallas is already 3M over the cap this year, all you are doing is taking 1M and futures back

I actually don't hate this at all. Dallas doesn't have the cap space THIS season, but he's likely not playing this season anyway. Stars have a ton of cap space next season & beyond. Hell, they've got enough to pull this move, sign their RFA's, and still have enough left over to get Klingberg an extension.

Bourque is solid. Definitely the highest ceiling of the players in the trade. You're looking at a couple of middle-6 forwards in Kiviranta and Dellandrea as well. All in all, if Dallas were serious about going after Eichel, I would imagine that this would probably be the most they'd be willing to offer up in a trade.

Taking back money in the form of a player that the organization has made clear that they value/don't want to trade doesn't increase the return for the Sabres. Decreases it, if anything.

With Eichel, Seguin and Benn this would be a total of close to 30M$ on 3 forwards. We all see how this works well for the Leafs!

We just do not have the Cap structure to trade for Eichel.

He is, I’d say he’s our second best prospect next to Johnston. That’s no knock against Bourque because I absolutely love Johnston and I see him as our next Seguin. Bourque easily has the value of an A prospect.

Depending on what we give to our RFA’s I can also see this working. I’d add Faksa and Dobby to this deal for cap reason.

I can’t see it happening cap wise, but if you show me that you can I’m all for it.
