Trade Mikheyev and Engvall See Description before commenting

Created by: Janasazi
Team: 2021-22 Toronto Maple Leafs
Initial Creation Date: Oct. 7, 2021
Published: Oct. 7, 2021
Salary Cap Mode: Basic
Description
Would Leaf's fans be okay with Mikheyev and Engvall being traded before the season begins.

I put them both on LTIR, but assume that they're both traded (because I don't want people nitpicking about what exactly they're worth in the market)

Main Question: Would you still cheer for this team without those 2 players being on it?

I'm not high on Engvall, so I don't care either way on him.

But doesn't make much sense to move Mikheyev at this point. Ritchie and Bunting aren't sure things, so Mikheyev is insurance if either of them struggles. Kase obviously has had injury concerns, so Mikheyev is insurance if he was out.

And then add in the fact, that Mikheyev is definitely better than Brooks and Simmonds (at least), so moving him means one or both of those guys being in the lineup instead, makes the Leafs worse.

And he's a very good PK'er.

Teams usually have 6 forward PKers. Who are yours with those 2 traded?

yeah I'd keep Mikey over Engvall at this point. Since Engvall would likely only fetch a really late draft pick if that, the leafs may as well roll the dice and put him on waivers imo. If he passes through it's just further insurance and a contract that can go up and down.

Mikheyev is gonna stick with the team. Looked good in the preseason and is a solid defensive player who can play anywhere in the lineup

Engvall though either gets traded or Dubas bites the bullet and loses him to waivers.

I think the problem people have with Mikheyev is that he has all the skills, but just doesn't get the goals. The thing is, he doesn't have to. He does all the other things, so relying on players like JT, Nylander and even third line guys works very well. If he's burying the puck or not, he still gets the puck where it needs to be. That's the role they need him to play.
