If we had any possible way to re-sign Zib, I think this would be pretty palatable for MIN. But he’d be a rental, so I just don’t see the point.

Same point as every rental. Team is good, pick up a player to address a weakness for a year.

Ok I’ll be more explicit for those who can’t extrapolate. I do not believe the Wild are one Zib away from being true contenders.

That’s a fair point. There’s no getting from a to b there. They are two completely different and unrelated thoughts.

I dont see boston selling low on beecher. we have an abundance of nhl centers right now. Not to mention strome is not the center any team wants. I would see boston giving up the wild package for ziba not for strome.

The point is that Khusnutdinov's ELC is far more valuable to the Wild during the heaviest years of the dead cap for the next few years then a 1 year rental that isn't likely to move the needle enough to make a difference and couldn't afford to keep around. It's just not worth giving up such an asset as Khusnutdinov unless Zib came with an extension in place.

Eh. That wasn’t the point he expressed. The point he expressed was he didn’t see the point in a rental.

What you said makes sense though.

No from Minnesota. Like no chance is Minnesota buying and giving up a 1st round pick and top prospect. Minnesota can wait till free agency to see who they can afford with their cap. Minnesota isn't taking any unnecessary risk that the player will leave

I think you’ve been confused over this before, and I’m not sure why you struggle to take context into account. I’m not saying I don’t see the point of rentals in general. I was suggesting that I don’t see the point in the Wild pursuing a rental. I didn’t explicitly state that, but to me it was pretty obviously implied.

The other thing too is that there is a chance Marat could be in NHL at the end of this season if Wild need him.
KHL season ends a lot earlier.
No idea how he fits in to their lineup, but if he keeps playing well over there, wouldn't rule it out.

Your original post did not express that. This does, and i agree.
