Minnesota says no. They can get a much better deal for Greenway.

Can we? I’m not so sure. I’d take this tbh.

Ok sure, but let’s even take Dickinson as a comp, since we’re looking at the canucks - he yielded a 3rd.

JD - Center, 26, 63 pts in 221 games.
JG - Wing, 24, 85 pts in 210 games.

Dickinson has a slight edge by playing center, but Greener is bigger, younger and more productive. Plus Greenway has been “trending up” from a pts perspective. So the absolute floor for JG would be no less than a 3rd. I think most agree it’s more than what Dickinson got, but I’m trying to wonder how much more. OP is proposing two 2nds, which is fairly respectable IMO.

Can we get a 1st for JG at TDL? Maybe. I don’t think it’s out of the question, but it also requires him having a decent year. I also just noticed the years of these picks, which isn’t ideal, but I still like this concept and I don’t think we can expect much more.

Those 2nd round picks will play in the NHL in 2026 and 2027, at the earliest. The least the Canucks can do is make those picks be in 2022 and 2023.

Jason Dickinson is also a worse player than Jordan Greenway. Two 2nds is probably about fair, but it's by no means a steal for Minnesota, and it's within the realm of possibility that they could get one better asset in the return.

Dallas needed to rid of him because of expansion. We can't just use one deal and be like that's what wr compare it too. Also there was other reason Dallas got rid of him. Teams value greenway size all the time, and how young he's has long history of trades where GM's think players like greenway can dp better on their team

Yeah JD isn’t a perfect comp, but I just wanted to establish a pretty definitive floor on JGs value. I wouldn’t ever accept a 3rd for him, but you never know with this site, so sometimes it’s helpful to draw firm lines and work up from there.

I can appreciate the argument for either side. There’s no urgency for us to move Greenway, so if you keep him and he has a good year, he not only provides utility but he also increases his value. So no real gripe with anyone deciding to decline this. On the other side, it’s not a slap in the face on value and if JG plays himself into limited 3rd or even 4th line role, I could see us struggling to get this level of value come TDL.

Ok but you literally just did the same thing with the Foligno trade...? You used one trade and decided that’s Greenways value.

I’m not even saying you’re necessarily wrong here. If you read the rest of the comments, you’ll see I understand both sides. I just don’t think were gonna get some kinda kings ransom for Greenway, as you seem to suggest

Respect! Agree to disagree in that teams get desperate, see young players of greenway's heights and think they can turn him around resulting in them paying

What do you think would be a reasonable package? Just in general, not even from the canucks. Like a 1st+, or what’s your expectation?

Which I think is possible but also pretty bullish. I think that would require a pretty big year outta Greenway, which I’m not convinced he’ll have.

Respectfully disagree. Jason Zucker playing on 4th line prior game before being traded. Ryan Hartman, got traded for 1st round pick with other pieces. Chuck fletcher paid a top 15 1st round pick for Rasmus r. Trying to think of other moves but can't right now. But to say, NHL has stupid GM's

True everything depends on GM and players status
