Waiver protection ? if he goes on waivers a team might pass on him over the extra cap hit, believe it or not.

Probably because it's not a NHL contract which can earn him 750k in the Ahl. Like many other fringe players sign.

yes, in the Draft year which also saw; Morin, Lazar, Mueller, Rychel, Poirier, Shinkaruk, McCarron, Dano and Klimchuck all get Drafted in the 1st Rd.

Goat actually sits in the top half of his Draft class in NHL talent.

That's a great point! I never realized how many first round picks in that draft class were disappointments.

The funny thing is that the Gauthier was picked before Andre Burakovsky, Shea Theodore and Ryan Hartman.
