It's very arguable sogaard > dipietro and Zaitsev can be buried easily for about a 3M$ total cap hit so it seems not too lopsided ultimately, no?

    Maybe not ideal

I'm not too high on Myers- especially in his 30s

    - Don't really want to trade Jarventie

    - Ottawa will need Murray and he'll be good, not a worry

    - No chance I am trading Sogaard

    - No chance the Sens will trade Sokolov

    - Don't think Ottawa will trade Holden who might be their 3rd best D-man this year until Sanderson arrives.

    - Wait, with is the condition that Henrique gets over .75 points per game? I mean, he won't get that it's basically 62 pts. He actually never put 0.75, his highest was 0.69 in his 21 y/o season...

That Adam Henrique trade is a scam for the Ducks.

Also, having Zach Sanford ahead of Connor Brown and then having Anton Forsberg as your starting goalie is a bit concerning.

Same term as Myers, 1.5 M$ less per year.

It's a good swap, particularly if you're trying to create some AAV space

Zaitsev is a bit overpaid (like Myers) but he's a good #5 or a passable #4, unfortunately overplayed in Ottawa due to the team status

I don't mind the swap (the $$$ owed are similar for both players so it works for Melnyk)

But no way I'm doing this if Sogaard is involved like in the OP proposal

This trade just doesn't make much sense for the Canucks. It's a steep price to pay for $1.5M worth of cap savings. Myers is better than Zaitsev, that will not change. Citing a higher cap hit, etc. will not lead to this swap ever being worth it for the Canucks given that he has improved his play and actually warrants a top 4 spot again. If he is moved, he will be moved for a big addition (Good young D-man like Dante Fabbro, or as part of a package to acquire a top six winger like Tkachuck).

DiPietro is a stud, he will be our backup next season - a good one at that. It'll be the first time since Luongo and Schneider that the Canucks have had a solid goalie tandem (Demko and Markstrom ended just before they would've become a good tandem). DiPietro could eventually play at the level where he would be considered a 1B, which is a must for the team moving forward, we need to have a 1B calibre goalie behind Demko so that his workload is manageable. I know Sogaard, he's solid. But he isn't DiPietro. I view that swap how Sens fans would view a Brannstrom for Juolevi one-for-one deal. It's lopsided for those who understand the team and their players but seems fair to an outsider who looks at their face value (draft position, placing on the organizational depth chart, stats, etc.).

I appreciate the creativity, but these types of deals aren't possible to justify from the Canucks' point of view. Each one of these swaps, they lose the better player, even if slightly. Definitely not worth the cap savings.

It's your choice if you don't want to make the deal but you said "Canucks laugh and block Dorion's number and email after seeing this"

What was laughable about this and so outrageous to block Dorion's number and email?

I'm not the OP, I was just wondering what could possibly make you say that

    1) I have no idea how you can say "he will be moved for a big addition"

I mean, Canucks fans THEMSELVES are talking like Myers is a fairly big cap dump, and not just on this site. People say that it would take an asset (or more) to move him. According to most, he doesn't have positive value at all. Here's a recent example on CF :

    https://www.capfriendly.com/armchair-gm/team/2833713

Myers is in a very similar boat as Zaitsev, except that Zaitsev's boat is smaller.

    2) "I view that swap how Sens fans would view a Brannstrom for Juolevi one-for-one deal"... If you think there's this kind of gap between DiPietro and Sogaard, then it's becoming clear that you're simply biased.

Sogaard is 18 months younger. I saw most of his AHL games as a 20 y/o and he made look easy. Even if an off-game, he was still making the big saves to get the Win. 6'7 quick athletic goalies don't grow on trees. Here's a ranking based on polls I have made this summer on a major hockey fans site :

    #1- Spencer Knight
    #2- Yaroslav Askarov
    #3- Jake Oettinger
    #4- Jeremy Swayman
    #5- Kaapo Kähkönen
    #6- Lukáš Dostál
    #7- Filip Gustavsson
    #8- Ukko-Pekka Luukkonen
    #9- Cayden Primeau
    #10- Michael DiPietro
    #11- Dustin Wolf
    #12- Mads Søgaard
    #13- Joey Daccord
    #14- Justus Annunen
    #15- Daniel Vladar

Canucks often vote for their own players in waves (they've been caught before for cheating polls and their player got disqualified lol), one of the very few fanbase to do that so maybe MD ended up above Sogaard for that reason but even if you think it's perfectly legit, they are ranked pretty close so not much difference at the moment. I personally think it won't be close in the future, which is why I wouldn't make that trade.
