Published: Oct. 9, 2021
Salary Cap Mode: Basic
Description
Pitch to Brady is that it's essentially a 3x$7.777M + a 5x$9M.

He doesn’t want long term, he’s not signing an 8 year deal

Then he either takes a 2 year deal at 6 mill per or under or he’s traded out of here

I think he ultimate gets his short term contract and is traded, there was a good article recently written about the history of Sens players and long term contract, that no one in the Eugene era has seen the end of their contracts as a senator,

    Buyout Colin White?

    🤨

He might not even be in prime yet still only 24

    Excellent possession numbers

    No cap space urgency either

Well you can't break out those two contracts. Pretty obvious Brady (and really most RFAs) don't sign 7 or 8 year deals.
7.77m X 3 is too much . The far superior Pettersson signed for 7.33m

Karlsson signed longterm and pretty much finished it minus 1 year. Chabot signed 8 x 8 now. It happens but there’s a reason they get traded

I I think he just wants out cause it’s kind insane he didn’t sign 8x8

but that is the point, they never finish, they are always traded before the end of their contracts, so if he signs a 3 year deal, hes probably traded by year 2, and depending on Chabots contract demands after his 8 year deal, he could be moved prior to it finishing as well as this is a habit of theirs, move them before they have to pay them more than they feel comfortable with

Yes, I was just breaking down how to pitch the 8 year deal. I am not offering a 3 x 7.77M.
In a perfect world I'm not offering a 3 year deal at all. For me it's 2, 7 or 8 years.

When you say acquire a solid draft pick in 2022 ...

Which player would we trade to get it and from what team?

Would u have been comfortable paying Karlsson 11.5 mill till his late 30s ? It’s always a bad idea. They ended up dodging bullets with Dzingel, Duchene and Karlsson. Maybe not Stone but we’ll see in a few years

Yes. Ottawa should absolutely buy him out this summer. He is not living up to his deal at all. A 2022 buyout saves $10.5M. If they wait until 2023 it only saves $3.6M
Like it or not this is a budget team. Norris and Formenton need new contracts this coming summer, follow by Stutzle, Pinto, Connor Brown and Zub the summer after.

Not sure what you're asking. We own our 2022 1st round pick. Are you saying we'll be too good to get a top 10 pick?

To be honest, I'm not sure Chabot will be here when his contract ends. Sanderson will eventually be good enough for that top pairing spot and by then we should be up against the cap. There'll be a cheaper option for the 2nd LHD spot ready to step in. Plus the return for Chabot will be very nice... I could honestly see it being the right move at some point.

No, I was a bit puzzled.

    You said the word "acquire".

"Acquire" is a word often used to describe what a team does when making trade.

That lead me to believe we should go out and trade for a solid pick in 2022.

For example, if you say we trade Nick Paul to Tampa for a 1st round pick, we would be "acquiring" a 1st round pick from Tampa.

I just meant acquired through the draft... but I see how it was confusing.

Gambrell is really not a 3C, and proved that last year, he is a responsible player, but has become a black hole offensively. Wouldn't get your hopes up.

Well neither is Tierney, and with White gone for the season and us not being a playoff team this year anyway, I'm just taking the best pivot I can find off waivers.
IMO that's Gambrell, unless maybe Adam Brooks goes on waivers today (which I doubt).
