Mikheyev Experiment

Created by: Janasazi
Team: 2021-22 Toronto Maple Leafs
Initial Creation Date: Oct. 9, 2021
Published: Oct. 9, 2021
Salary Cap Mode: Basic
Description
Mikheyev got hurt in the last pre-season game.

Since a lot of people have been criticizing his viability as a player, we have the option to do an actual scientific explanation.

If we put Mikheyev on LTIR and the team is genuinely better. It could mean that trading him won't significantly hurt the team because we can see how the team behaves without him.

For it to be a good experiment you would need a sample size of him with the team during the regular season.

That's a great point but I didn't say it was a perfect experiment. We can always compare it to his preseason play but I don't think people are gonna be convinced with that.

It does give the Leafs short term cap relief. But there isn't any reason to believe that Engvall, or Ritchie maybe even Bunting are "better" wingers. Plus doubt if Kerfoot stays at LW full time during the season.
Mikheyev may be traded for cap reasons, but he worth his contract.

I think Engvall, Ritchie and Bunting have been great in the preseason but you're right that this can quickly change when the actual season starts.

For Kerfoot, he hasn't really been good in the center spot but I think he's a good keep for a worst case scenario if/when something happens to Matthews or Tavares and we need a viable 2C.

Kerfoot has been fine at 3C...although he and line mates had hands of stone last season. But so many Leafs fans think Kerfoot is bad at centre but seem quite happy to put one goal last season Kampf at centre and Spezza who hasn't played centre much in years as a solution..

I think the main reason we got Kampf was his defensive ability and I hear he's good at winning faceoffs in the defensive zone.

I agree with you about Kerfoot's linemates, they definitely didn't help.

Kerfoot is not a good face guy. I wonder why? Gee, just spend an hour a day during the summer practicing. Kampf will play a lot when the Leafs have a lead and the PK. But to depend on Kampf and Spezza as 3/4C is really iff, and if Matthews or Tavares get hurt, Kerfoot seems the their only replacement.
