I feel the second and third cover the retention, broberg and a first probably gets Forsberg. Need to add for ekholm and kassian is negative value to the preds. Would probably have to do a couple of other shrewd moves to make the cap space, one I could think of is trading koskinen to Detroit for a half retained Greiss, need to add a second or equivalent for that deal. Could include Turris and get gagner back for extra savings with an added late round pick or something. Still need to give up more for ekholm and I just don't think Edmonton has the assets to do it, nor should they as they would be pretty barren in the cupboard.

@Lancebmx hit the nail on the head. However this would put you into contender talk. If only goaltending could be a bit more solid(which seems to be the reason you guys aren’t in the contender discussion.

Gotta agree here for the most part. I think Edmonton could also add Lavoie and that might make it worth it to Nashville.

The question is would this be worth it to Edmonton to deplete their prospects for assets they may not be able to keep? Unless Keith retires at season end and Klefbom stays on LTIR, I don't see how they could afford to extend Forsberg + Ekholm. I guess if Edmonton won the cup it wouldn't matter as much but that goaltending needs some fixing. Good looking lineup though

Ekholm would be a great deadline acquisition for any team that intends to make a serious run in the playoffs. Last season his trade value was probably a 1st round pick an a solid prospect. His agent says there will be no contract negotiations if Ekholm isn't signed before Tuesday, and its difficult to imagine he'll fetch more than a late 1st round pick if he remains an impending UFA when the TDL arrives. It looks like this season the Oilers will have one of the best groups of top six forwards in the NHL, quite possibly the best. Barring a catastrophic injury within that group, I think Holland will want to spend on goaltending, defense, and bottom-six grit rather than adding a player like Forsberg. So, unless he can manufacture a reasonable deal for a goaltender, perhaps a guy like Varlamov, he might spend less to chase a guy like Khudobin and save his 1st round pick to go after a defender like Ekholm.
