Why would the leafs give up anything for a player they could have plucked off waivers.

"could have"???
A) he's not on waivers yet and
B) the Leafs are pretty far down the list....will end up in Az long before the Leafs get a shot

My bad, thought they put him on waivers.

B) I don’t think that matters. Tons of players clearing waivers and really the leafs woukdn’t take him. He would need to go to the marlies.

I don't think he will clear; that's also what the analysts are saying in Chicago. Low risk, high reward on a tiny cap hit. Do you really think Engvall or even Ritchie are a lot better?

Yes, they are. They are both making the leafs. Nylander may still have a bit of potential but that is running thin.

Well that says more about the Leafs forward depth I think then Engvall being a good 3rd liner. Sure he potted a couple goals against a very thin Sens team in the preseason but he hasn't shown much in the show, certainly not more then Nylander
