Classic NHL contract these days, have to push out the term to get the AAV manageable. Teams are willing to deal with the asset management of offloading a contract like this in year 7 or 8 if they can compete for years 1-6.
Pretty much what I expected from this deal. And I figure even if the last couple seasons end up an overpay when he hits mid-30s, he's been super underpaid the last few seasons so it's a wash for me. (Also the cap should be going up some by then hopefully!)
A lot of fans were worried Mika was going to get ~10M, but when Barkov signed the other day for 10 it was a good sign Mika would come significantly under. This is a great AAV for a guy who's been one of the best GPG players the past few years. He just has to stay healthy
I didn't think this off season could get any worse for the Rangers but here we are. AAV on its own is bad enough, at least one million too high, but that term makes this deal outright bad for the Rangers. They will experience a big cap crunch in just a year or two without getting themselves a very long window of contention in return.

Term is long but aav is excellent. Dude is like 7th in goals the least few years
Voted yes, but it's kind of a plug your nose deal on first assessment IMO.
* GMs are bonkers this last three months; that's a given.
* The Money - seems to fit the other market prices out there.
* The Term - a 6 or 7yr deal be nicer obviously. Have to see the M-NTC/NMC info; if any.
... likely a Kreider 2.0 near the end of it.
