The Canes offseason was honestly baffling. Promising young talented team that threw away their top D and top young goalie for a meme (the offer sheet drama). But at least they got another Finn, right...?

Slavin is still on the team, as is Pesce.

The canes lost their number 3 D man because he got offered $9M. They’re better off.

I'm happy with Nedeljkovic being in Detroit but its still BS. Too many young and unproven players demanding trades.

But Carolina's execution of the offer sheet was brilliant and gave the rest of the league the blue print.

Bear for foegle was a very good move for the canes

However dumping ned for "more established guys", who both have injuries and one who has been bad for 2 years now is baffling. I understand ned hasn't been completely proven but I'd take him over injured bad Freddy or injury prone raanta any day

I don't think so, but the speed of the signing (for 500k less than he was asking for where tax difference is pretty low), and the fact that his family is very close leads me to believe that he really wanted to go to Detroit or maybe Columbus and was willing to hold out until arbitration or be traded there.

I also get the feeling that Ned is not going to have a good season, because usually guys that play 20-30 games and look like world-beaters fall off pretty hard right after.

oops this was supposed to be an edit to the previous post

Your owner wasn't going to give Nedeljkovic the money he wanted that's why he was dealt, And i got news for you? There's noway you were going to keep Nedeljkovic and Bernier as well it was one or the other not both. If we didn't get Nedeljkovic then we just resign Bernier.

Ned wasn’t asking 3 million from Carolina, he was asking 4-4.5 million. Management team was afraid that arb was going to give him 5 million. Ned has looked bad so far but it’s preseason.

Dougie isn’t worth 9 million. Especially wont be worth 9 million in 4 years when the Canes are trying to keep good players worth good money.

You completely forgot about DeAngelo. That was their worst move this offseason

Want absolutely no part of that terrible Bernier contract, that Dougie contract will eventually come back to haunt them as well. He is going to start regressing soon.

As for Ned, I hate trading him away for so little, but the reality is he played 30 something games behind the best blue line in hockey. Who knows if he does the same in Detroit.

Trading a 1st and a 3rd to pay a mediocre player 6.1 million is a blue print?

Not going after the other teams best player and overpaying for 1 season. They do keep his rights after this contract is up and Kotkaniemi is a RFA for 4 more seasons.

That's what I heard from a Canes fan he said it was because Nedeljkovic's girlfriend lives in Detroit.

The rumored Carolina offer of 1.5M probably didn’t do them any favors.
