TML fans 🙄

I saw this coming from a mile away, I’m aloud to have an opinion, I don’t like the signing it’s to much money. End of it.

82 pts in 127 games in two shortened seasons, including 1/4 of his rookie season on the 4th line. He also already has more playoffs point than Connor McDavid.

You did not just compare Suzuki to McDavid

I voted no for now as he's still a bit unproven entity with the career high of 41 points, but he could very well develop into something great.

Now the contract is there, now it's time to earn it.

Canadiens are in cap hell over the 81.5 million this year and next year. Yes I know Weber will be on LTIR and his 7.857 million cap hit will be off the books every opening day till his contract is officially done. Still walking that line as you are only allowed to be so much over the cap during the off season.

I guess you're judging players by playoff success. I mean McDavid had more points in 5 of his 6 season than Suzuki had in his whole NHL career. And in his rookie season McDavid had more than Suzuki ever put in a single season.

Haha Nice.

Nitpickers are always shocked when someone else does it to disprove their point.

They will be 1M over the cap (82.5M) with Weber (but without RFAs - Romanov and Lehkonen)...

A team can go 10% over the cap if I remember correctly.

No hell. Not tied to make moves. You are just throwing stuff up in the air.

Early extensions can be tricky

Either they work out well or blow up in the teams face

I think Suzuki in a year or two will live up to this deal quite nicely.

Too soon for $63m. He's less productive per 5v5 minute than about 10 other guys from the 2017 draft but since MTL doesn't have any centers they gotta pay this kid $8m instead of bridging and waiting for him to prove he's a 1C. Scored 26 of his 82 points on the power play. Could be looking at Ryan Johansen 2.0, could be looking at Patrice Bergeron 2.0... too early to tell.

Wow, did not see this one coming! I like it for both sides!

Really? They don't want Suzuki getting offer sheeted like Kotkaniemi did.

I see WHY they did it haha, just wasn't expecting a contract agreement this soon.

I agree with that usually a deal like this doesn't happen until the all star break.

I don't know, I see a lot of "this might end up being a steal" here.
Which tells me there is a lot of doubt that everyone things this is a sure thing.
My gut reaction looking at this was, that's a lot of money for a guy who might be a low 20s goal guy.
Don't hate the player, but the production so far doesn't match the figure.
They are really hoping he grows into it.

The people praising this deal are honestly blowing my mind.

D+1 = Junior
D+2 = Junior
D+3 = 13 goals / 41 points (Full season pace = 15 goals / 47 points)
D+4 = 15 goals / 41 points (Full season pace = 22 goals / 59 points)
-----------------------------------------------------------------------
NHL = 28 goals / 82 points (Full season pace = 18 goals / 52 points)

He definitely has potential ... and this contract has the potential to look good in a few years.

But Suzuki's short resume doesn't warrant anything near $8 million dollars or an 8 year term.

Clayton Keller was younger, had better stats, signed for less, and his deal still aged terribly.

Points per game in D+3 and D+4 seasons combined (Suzuki's full NHL career):

1.11 points per game = 91 points per 82 games / 50 goals per 82 games = Auston Matthews
1.00 points per game = 82 points per 82 games / 24 goals per 82 games = Mitchell Marner
0.75 points per game = 62 points per 82 games / 21 goals per 82 games = Willy Nylander
0.64 points per game = 52 points per 82 games / 18 goals per 82 games = Nicky Suzuki

That's probably the most unbiased statistical comparison you will find in this comments section.

The two guys making $10 million were 30 + 39 points per season ahead of Suzuki at his age.

And they've both improved to a 100+ point pace since then (doubling Suzuki's production).

Now lets focus on the Habs since Suzuki is their #1 center (not Toronto's #3 center).
