If Caulfield is good, he doesn't sign that offer sheet, or the Habs match it if he signs KK wasn't worth 6.1m or maybe even draft picks.

A lot of your deals are underpays imo. But you do have 8+ in cap space so its not really a problem.

I have no idea what happens in 2 years or what would be a solid offer-sheet for Caufield by then.

I'm just pointing out who to offer-sheet from the Habs if Tom Dundon wants to go down that road again.

A lot of those deals will be determined more by the next 2 years than the last 2.

True but for example chances are very low bear is only making 2.5. Same with nedeljkovic, chances are very low he takes 3 million, especially from the team that was too cheap to pay him that when he 100% deserved it.

pretty sure Caulfield will be a rfa group 1, 10.2c not offer sheet able when his contract expires. Please correct me if I'm wrong he has not played 3 pro seasons as this will count as his first I believe, he only played 10 regular season games and is considered a rookie this year

I looked at the current CBA for the NHL very carefully before making this post.

http://www.nhl.com/nhl/en/v3/ext/CBA2012/NHL_NHLPA_2013_CBA.pdf

This is what I saw on page 30 that was key:

"For the purposes of this Section 10.2(a), a Player aged 18 or 19 earns a
year of professional experience by playing ten (10) or more NHL Games
in a given NHL Season, and a Player aged 20 or older (or who turns 20
between September 16 and December 31 of the year in which he signs his
first SPC) earns a year of professional experience by playing ten (10) or
more Professional Games under an SPC in a given League Year."

My conclusions:

1. Cole Caufield was 20 years old when he signed his SPC on March 27th.

2. Cole Caufield earned a year of professional experience when he suited up for and participated in his 10th game of the 2020-2021 season (May 12th against the Edmonton Oilers).

3. Cole Caufield needs to play 10 games in each of the 2021-2022 and 2022-2023 seasons to earn the three years of professional experience needed to be given an offer-sheet.

Barring some unforeseen circumstances, Cole Caufield will be eligible for an offer-sheet from the Carolina Hurricanes in the 2023 off-season.

I mean, Kotkaniemi is too hot and cold to be earning 6.1, Caufield doesn't seem to be that type of player.

He doesn't? Guy scored 4 goals across his first 10 then dried up and scored 4 across the next 20.

Its even worse when you look at those 20 games. 0 goals against Toronto, 0 goals against Winnipeg, 4 against Vegas, 0 against Tampa.

so to avoid an offer sheet and keep contro the players ... if Caulfield decides for some reason he will not sign an extensionthe 2022 offseason we put him in laval for the 2023 year of his contract and not let him play the 10 games?

If Caufield fails to play in 10 NHL games in either 2021-2022 or 2022-2023, he will be designated as a 10.2(c) RFA for the 2023 offseason and will not be eligible for an offer-sheet.

Quinn Hughes of the Vancouver Canucks was in the same boat this offseason because he only played 5 NHL games in 2018-2019.

However, I think Montreal would be better off just letting Caufield thrive as a 1st line forward like he did in the playoffs and renewing another run at the Cup in 2022 and 2023.

At this point, the possibility of an offer-sheet in 2 years is pretty insignificant.

As long as Caufield gets an extension before the later of:

5:00pm EST on June 26th, 2023
5:00pm EST on the Tuesday following the 2023 NHL Entry Draft,

the Montreal Canadiens protect themselves against an offer-sheet on Caufield.
