Taking Shaw from Chicago takes away free cap as he is LTIR, making their cap situation worse.

No this is bad for the sharks. Eichel is not a fit for us at all
We need prospects and picks, not overpaid veterans ad nauseam.

2 really solid prospects and a pretty much guaranteed top 10 pick in a stacked draft, not to mention Hertl. Sharks are way better off selling Hertl thems3lves and drafting high the next 2 years

Merkley is 24 and a fringe NHLer and Bordeleau is alright, a team like that id assume theirs conditions on the pick even if he didnt put one

Merkley is 21 and still sharks #3 prospect lol. Bordeleau is really good go ahead check his stats on Michigan.

*You might be thinking of Nick Merkley whom the Sharks acquired from Jersey and was one of the first cuts from camp. Ryan Merkley was one of the last cuts.

The value isn't as awful as some sharks fans will say, Eichel is a superstar talent when healthy and it will cost valuable assets like top prospects and a first round pick. But Eichel isn't a fit in SJ, they are going to rely on ELC's like Merkley and Bordeleau to compete as long as Karlsson, Vlasic, Burns, and Couture are on payroll.

Bordeleau won the Tim Taylor Award last year.

I get some Sharks fans don't like this, but honestly if we were to get Eichel, this would be my preferred way. Hertl provides the bulk of the value, Eklund is not involved in the trade, and there's a protection on this year's 1st (considering Eichel probably won't play this year). Maybe the one point of contention is swapping Bordeleau for a slightly lesser prospect like Wiesblatt, Robins or Gushchin, or keep Bordeleau and have Buffalo take some cap back (Vlasic with $2,000,000 retention perhaps)

Just because you specifically dont want defense doesnt make them worthless

The point is he was the best rookie in the league above Power, Beniers, Johnson, Sanderson, Savoie, etc.

And every player since Gillies with the exception of a 20 year old Sam Anas to win the award is: Eichel, Kyle Connor, Clayton Keller, Scott Perunovich, Joel Farabee, Alex Newhook, and Thomas Bordeleau.

What in the world is a solid prospect to you then?

cant use them and that puts the onus on Buffalo to make another trade with a lesser player to get a player they actually need so i wouldnt even say worthless, id say negative value

He COULD be a good NHLer, but being one of the main pieces in an Eichel trade is a horrible return for the Sabres.

Good, because SJ isn't paying two SOLID prospects, a 1C, and a 1st for a 10M LTIR player.

I mean Buffalo has next to zero RD depth but ok, lets mark a 21 year old top RD prospect down as negative value.

Y'all act like he will be on LTIR the rest of his contract lmao. As soon as the guy gets his surgery he so desperately wants, he'll be on the ice within a month or two.

The Sabres have 8 D men that are highly touted prospects or already NHLers under the age of 24. You think one of them couldnt flip sides to win an NHL spot or in Dahlin's case, go back to the right side. if they were concerned with RD depth they would have drafted one 3 months ago. That argument is stupid. They dont need to trade for a dman just because he holds the stick in his opposite hand
