Kassian has never fought Wilson.. Wilson tried and Kassian refused. Not gonna happen. 🤣🤣

Tinordi has caught Wilson on multiple occasions and so he Reaves.. that’s why we got them. Now Kassian for hits is a different story but at more than 1.5M he is dead cap.

Offer sheeting Whitecloud scream

Varlamov will help a lot, even with the defence core getting better, he's a very good goalie I would 100% want to have over Koskinen.

Yes from NYI. I think trading Varlamov next off-season is an obvious move, and Edmonton is an obvious destination.

1st and 3rd with Varly extending seems fair to me

Problem with that trade is term. Smith is signed for another year skinner won’t be waiver exempt so your loosing him in this idea as well. I personally don’t like the idea of an extension with yet another aging goalie at some point we have to trust in the youth.

yeah, but varlamov is far better than any of the other goalies edmonton has in the system rn, and they really need to be competing every year while they have mcdavid and draisaitl in their primes. they could prob do 2-3 years and still get a lot of solid production out of him for relatively cheap on an extension bc he’s older.

How much better? He’s got a darn good defensive team in front of him in New York. Moving to a far more offensively driven team will expose him more than he has been. Don’t get me wrong he’s a very good goalie just prefer internal growth. That being said if smith chooses to retire after this year that changes everything and I’d jump on this. It’s a good deal well done

he has been playing behind a great defense, but he was also sixth in goals saved above expected last year, plus he led the league in shutouts and had a .929 save percentage. obviously the oilers defense is worse, but i think he’d still be solid there.

And let's not act like Varlamov hasn't been successful elsewhere. Maybe his numbers won't be as good as it would be on the Isles, but he'd be an easy upgrade for Edmonton and a comfort in net.

What if MAF retires?? Then what do you do

Varlamov is a very significant upgrade over Smith/Koskinen and picks dont even matter for you as you are a contender

Of course picks matter. They could be used in trade to upgrade their defense, or they could be used to actually pick young talent at the entry draft. Young talent on cheap ELC/RFA contracts is the lifeblood of an organization - if you aim to contend for 10+ years in a row like the Oilers do, you NEED to have talent coming up through the organization constantly.

Or you could upgrade your sh-tty goalie tandem using picks that most likely wont be lottery picks

Smith - Koskinen combined for a .9123 save percentage last year. Only 3 teams did better than that. You don't have to like them but you're going to get called out and laughed at spouting opinions like that.

When there are better options out there for cheaper, absolutely yes.

He's a little better than Smith, not enough better to warrant a 1st + 3rd though. My point is that MAF is available for free, there's no reason to do this at all.

Kassian can beat up the cap, not Wilson. Kassian is also one faceplant to the ice away from a nursing home, doubt you find a taker

Ughh sure lol, didn't you hear me complaining when he was traded and it took him months to convince me to move to Chicago, almost forcing him to retire??
