Pacquette, Perrault, Brooks, Wideman, Kulak and Niku are all gone so you lost players LOL. I am kidding I know what you are saying but I wouldn't resign Chiarot with Guhle and Norlinder being added it is just a waste of cap space.

Given that Ghule showed he was probably ready this season and certainly should be ready next season do you think its worth handing Chiarot 3 years? If its some added protection for the young guy you want maybe instead find a vet willing to take a one year deal to bring some depth instead of taking on 3 more years of Chiarot.

I think defensemen generally take more time to develop that we’d otherwise think. And injuries are a fact of life. I’d want at least 7 NHL defensemen, and possibly 8.

Chiarot was a stop gap top 4 defender in the wait of the pipeline coming to fruition and we've also found Eddy so I think it's safe to assume he's gone. Harris (If signed) should be more than capable to play third pairing minutes toward the end of the year (When NCAA is over) so for me Chiarot is gone at TDL if management has an agreement with Harris' agent by then, if not well Guhle, Norlinder and/or Kulak are all in the mix to cover for his loss.

for sure which is what i assume what the thinking. I'm just asking if you really think three more years of Chiarot is a positive for the habs or if that might become a contract they end up needing to move to clear space.

I hear what you’re saying. I’d only sign him to a contract that would be moveable. But I have no problem with Romanov, Guhle and Norlinder being brought along more slowly, even if each is only schedule to play 2/3 of games each. (Especially when you factor in injuries, it quickly gets close to 100% each.
Heck, we can also give Edmundson and Chiarot games off as well. If we want to win a cup, our guys need to be fresh come playoff time.

Similar long term thinking re: Allen with Price.
