It's a tad on the expensive side, but it makes sense for NSH to throw Ekholm a lifeline after he took a long-term deal for so little back in the day. Furthermore, the term is perfect; any longer and the deal risks turning into something really, really bad.

The contract would make much more sense if Nashville weren't big sellers during the offseason. It should age fine until year 3 though.

At this price, I wouldve gone for a shorter term, maybe 2 years. Feels like this is going to be an overpayment after that

Price is a touch high but at 4 years I am not too concerned. I feel like they are making up for the low salary on his last deal.

This is a lot like the Petry/Muzzin contracts we saw last year, where both teams gave a hefty salary to an aging defender in order to prolong their blueline stability and contention. The problem with this contract is Nashville is in a limbo state where they're not good enough to go deep in the playoffs, but they have a decent core of players who will make sure they don't bottom out.

Personally I think Nashville should've traded Ekholm off.

The main reason to me I vote no, is because the preds should be in rebuild/retool and ehkolm was going to be a huge trade deadline bait that could get them a 1st and a decent prospect at least, the contract it self is a bit too high and won’t age well

It’s a bit on the expensive side but still a good deal, not sure how this fits in Nahsville’s confusing vision though

Don't see how this is expensive for aav. He's a #2 defenseman signing as a UFA. And it's a short contract. I'm impressed they got it so short.

Less money and term than I thought he'd sign for. When lesser defensemen like Nurse are getting over $9M until they're 34, this is a steal.

I can't believe people think this is expensive. May age poorly sure, but he's a #2 defenseman by essentially any metric, and number 1 defenseman are signing for over 8 million. 6s makes total sense. I agree it's an odd contract for Nashville to sign given their rebuild, but the aav is totally fair.

To quote David Polie, a "competitive rebuild"

Nashville should be in rebuild mode not sign good players mode.

I would have waited till the deadline had this deal ready and when he was traded to his new team it comes with an extension, giving Nashville a bigger return in the end.

But I guess they want to still try and compete
