realistically? i would pay you a 3rd lol. thats with you not giving any cap back to us. if you needed to send cap back to us i imagine it would be like Engvall, Dermott ...basically a player you dont have a use for and Caps still give you a late pick

It would take a fair amount considering you'd probably want retention on that contract

Yeah I guess it depends on the time of trade and the trading partner. In the offseason, Caps would need to throw in a draft pick for teams to take on salary. At this years trade deadline, you would think same thing.

At this point right now, I don't think the Caps trade him because a) they would require receiving a player back with a low salary cap / 4th line (or depth) player (like a Raffl last year) and b) they would still need to send a draft pick over

Caps fans might say "swap him in with Axel". Remember, this team is trying to contend. The 4th line was the best, most consistent line the Caps had last year. They were fast, good possession, and very solid defensively. I assume right now, the Caps want to keep that trio together to see if they will continue to contend or start to lose some competitiveness.

    Leafs can't afford a $2.75M 33 yo 4th liner with term.

Makes no sense to trade away an NHL Dman and get none in return. More fascination with other teams bottom enders. Engvall is no worse/better than Hagelin.

A: The Marlies still have Dahlstrom and Leivo, plus prospects, behind six solid defensemen in Toronto. WSH's veteran LHD depth chart is Orlov, Irwin, Kempny. Dermott could be valuable to them right now, but if Fehervary shows he can play a top four role, or Kempny gets back to the top of his game, that changes.

B: Engvall and Hagelin each played 4th line/PK last year, but Hagelin played a tougher role and did better with it. Add in that Hagelin has five 30 point seasons and their value is not equivalent. The age difference is all that makes this fair. I'm fine with WSH keeping Hagelin, though.

C: If Toronto gets completely healthy and has to trade Mikheyev for someone cheaper, they can add a defenseman in that deal. Maybe not a Norris candidate like Travis Dermott, but someone who plays defense in the NHL, and is cheap.

Your underestimated Dermot. He's an NHL Dman Leafs Dmen prospects with the Marlies...aren't NHL prospects. Yes the Leafs have two aging veterans with Marlies but if they were so good, they could be signed elsewhere.
Sorry, Hagelin is no where near worth his contract...when compared to Engvall, Mikheyev and Dermot
