Ottawa declines.

ZAR is not worth a 3rd round pick and POJ is not the type of prospect we are looking for.

And we are giving up our best RD.

Sens have Braanstrom and Docker comming up on the right side. You get a very good bottom 6 forward and a decent LD prospect which the sens lack.

1. JBD is not yet ready to play in the NHL and Brannstrom is our 7th D.

We need Zub more than ever this season.

2. We have plenty of bottom 6 forwards and we don't need to spend a 3rd round pick to get another one.

3. The Sens lack decent LD prospects??

Somebody hasn't been paying attention :/

1. I never said you were dumb.

2. Zub is our best RD and this is not the trade that will compel us to give him up.

3. We are not spending a 3rd round pick on ZAR.

4. Check the full roster again.

The names "Jake Sanderson" and "Tyler Kleven" should pop up somewhere.

Also, Erik Brannstrom is a LD, not a RD.

I'm not sure why Capfriendly thinks otherwise.

Zub is Ottawa's top RHD. ZAR would definitely be useful, but not worth adding a 3rd, and a middling LHD prospect is the last thing Ottawa needs, especially in return for the only Dman Ottawa has capable of being a real partner for Thomas Chabot. The Sens long term LHD outlook currently consists of Chabot, Sanderson, Mete, Brannstrom and Kleven. By comparison, their long-term RHD is a lot more questionable without Zub, with Bernard-Docker being the only one with projectable top 4 upside. After him it's Thomson who is promising, but still very raw, and then Maxence Guennette and Ben Roger who look more like bottom pair guys at this stage.

Zub is worth more than both, but it's a moot point because it simply makes zero sense to trade him.

I see that sensonfire has already done most of the job so just going to complete by a simple list. Also like he said, Brannstrom is LD, Sens don't want him on RD for technical reasons. It would be very surprising to see them change their reasoning on this.

We are not "attacking" you or your proposal, just explaining why this proposal doesn't work for Ottawa. Artem Zub is like the only quality RD at the moment. Zaitsev would be fine on the 3rd pairing, passable on the 2nd maybe. Josh Brown is not a regular NHL D-man, 7th or 8th D at best. We don't want Del Zotto in the lineup, many fans still don't understand the signing. Holden and Mete can play both sides but they're only going to be solid IF you have them on the 3rd pair. The RD prospects are simply NOT NHL READY

To summarize, the defense is Chabot, Zub and a 6 bottom pairing D-men... We believe Brannstrom isn't that far from top-4 but still needs to get experience to improve defensively. He just turned 22 y/o

Del Zotto, Holden and Mete can apparently play both sides. Can they be as effective on RD? Remains to be seen. So here's the list

LD :

Thomas Chabot
Michael Del Zotto
Nick Holden (will be 35 y/o and UFA)
Victor Mete
Erik Brannstrom
------------------
Jake Sanderson
Tyler Kleven
Jonathan Aspirot

RD :

Artem Zub
Nikita Zaitsev
Josh Brown
------------------
Jacob Bernard-Docker
Lassi Thomson
Maxence Guenette
Benjamin Roger

Kleven is a stud. He was probably ND best defenseman last year.
OTT is a stacked team prospect wise.
