why are the islanders giving cbj a first to retain 1.5mil of salary? feels like a huge overpay, they would just find cap space elsewhere

Even with 50% retention the Isles cannot do this as they only have something like $390,000 in cap space.

Isles do not need Tarasenko, they need Mayfield.

Tarasenko does not return a 1st and a Top 4 D on a steal of a contract.
