I think it's a bad contract that feels good, as he successfully used a highball to set everyone's expectations for a high contract.

His comparables would have had him in 5s. But he set everyone up to expect this.

So well done by him and his agents.

The Ottawa fans are the real winners here. After years of letting star players walk or trading them for peanuts they finally committed to keeping their young stars in the system.

I don't think Brady based on his stats deserved more than 8, hell maybe not even more than 7.5. The Svech deal would've been reasonable. But sens had too, and it's good to get him locked up for 7. Having Chabot and Tkachuk locked in is a massive win, despite the dollar amount. I'm curious what the bonus money is like.

It's great for Brady too. Obviously the money but the term is great he get to have 2 massive deals before he leaves the NHL. That's maximizing you're dollars.

Good deal for an elite and still growing player. If he has a good year i'd like to see him get a crack at USA.

His closest comparable is Svechnikov who signed for slightly less and received another year.

Will be fine.

The Svetch deal was already a little high. This guy is a 50-point winger, how is that worth $8M+?? Terrible deal for Ottawa.

Suzuki got 1 year more and 400k less. MTL W. Massive Ottawa L

Suzuki’s is a year older, has played on a better team every year and still hasn’t had any seasons as good as Brady statistically.

Growing? He hasn't improved his production since he first stepped onto NHL ice.

Over 10% of the cap is too much for a scoring agitator. Tom Wilson isn't making this kind of % and even a guy like Wayne Simmonds back when he was scoring 30 goals a year (50-60 pts) in his prime signed long term for 6.63%. Knowing their team's on an internal cap it'll be interesting to see when times come to pay other key pieces like top 6 scoring wingers and another top pair defender...

a "little" high?
Back to back years of low 20 goals and mid 40 points.
Even last year 25 goal and 53 point average.

HTF does that get you over 8 million per?
This shouldn't have been over 6.

That's what happens when you paint yourself in a corner... What else are they going to do, trade the face of their franchise for picks? It's not normal for the fan base to hold their breath every time there's a big contract talk, ownership needs to change for the team to be successful.

I voted yes.

The cap hit is obviously high, but comparing his point totals with other players is deceiving... He has played with terrible players and rookies.
If he was on even an average team, he'd be probably already have 60 points.

I think when the Sens become a playoff team, Brady will have 60-70 points easy.

Its high..
But also worth considering that his team sucks and putting up points doesn't come as easy as almost any other team.
He is a 60 point guy almost anywhere else.

The extra $500K and one less year compared to Svechnikov is an indicator that a We Suck Tax is real and it exists in the NHL. Good for the Tkachuks; Keith really taught his boys well. Also good for the fans that Ottawa finally has a long-term group to get excited for instead of always worrying about their players leaving.

It’s a bad deal, but Melnyk is never spending to the cap anyways so I guess it doesn’t really matter.

Svechnikov posted 55, 15-27-42 [0.76 P/GP] last season
B Tkachuk posted 56, 17-19-36 [0.64 P/GP] last season

Worse, there hasn't been any growth in Brady's game in 3 seasons in the NHL. He COULD turn out to be worth this contract, but it's not a good bet.

Points don't come easily anywhere, you have to create opportunities for yourself. Brady isn't good at that. Ottawa was 19th in the league in scoring last year, basically average. That's a piss poor excuse.

No he hasn't - he topped out at 0.96 P/GP in his contract year and then both his goals and points declined over the following 2 years.

Extremely piss poor. Not eat scoring points for the wild but kaprisov found a way. The sens were not that bad of a team. They played a very competitive style.

I stand corrected. For some reason in my head I remembered him having 86 pts not 77 his contract year.

If you think $8,300,000 is expensive than you must not know ....

Tkachuk has become a consistent 35-45 point player!

When I saw the money on the deal I was convinced it was an 8 year deal.

Sens better hope the cap goes up in a hurry because they are overpaying him by about 3M this season.

Unless Brady makes a significant jump over the next season or 2 this contract is a bad overpay.

I guess we'll see won't we...
Again I don't disagree thats in an overpay, but the Sens are taking a gamble that he'll be a 60-70 point guy in a year or two.
In exchange for that gamble they get a 7 year term which is good for a team that is not a desirable place to play
