I personally like the deal. It's a bit risky, but he should be a key piece in the core for a lot of years, so having him signed for a lot of years is a good thing. Let's hope he lives up to that contract.

Overpaid for current production, but it's important for Ottawa to show current/future players and fans that they'll pay to keep talent in town.

Overpaid, he understood the situation and squeezed a few extra million out of the team. Good for him, everyone can move on happy.

I don't think he was likely to ever merit a cap hit above this, but he will probably worth this cap hit in a couple of years in his prime. For the next two years, an overpay likely. But worth it in that if he was only signed to a bridge, he could have been lost easily, something important for Ottawa to not allow with all the talent that left over the past several seasons.

I think it is an okay bargain for Ottawa. If anything, it just shows how fantastic a deal like Svechnikov's probably is in Carolina. THAT is a great deal.

I still think Brady didn't want a long term deal. But he was able to negotiate with all NHL teams and he realized that money he wanted short term or long term wasn't as much as expected.
8.3 X 7 for the the captain is good for the Sens, and really the money might be the best Brady could have got from any team over seven years....meaning four years RFA and three years UFA.
But I agree with Coga16 above, maybe Brady still might play out his full contract with the Sens, but at least it's an easy trade for the Sens with the cost certainly of a contract.o
I like the Sens and how they building their team. My pick to to go to Cup Final soon...maybe four years.

Like others have mentioned, the team needed to pay him as sets the table for the other guys. I think they should give him the C as it will help them in the future negotiations that 49pts will not get you $8.2 mil, you need to be a leader and play the game the right way.

To have Tkachuk, Chabot, Batherson locked up the next 6-7 years is a great start for OTT.

Tkachuk is a great play driver on offence, defense is still not the greatest. Shoots a ton but does not finish as often as he should. It's on the high end of AAV.

i honestly prefer a deal like this, because it takes him through most of his prime. the best kind of deals go until the player has started dropping off. if a deal ends at around age 27-28, they can demand a lot of money and a long term contract which could end up hurting a lot more than a slight overpay through a players prime.
